Not enough internal memory for loading latest maps.

Can I delete all the unnecessary files and folders in the internal memory of my nuvi 2797LM that I don't need or want? It's loaded with all those language files that I will never use. I guess a better question is can you tell me which files I don't really need, and then can I delete those files. There's vehicle files, language files, and who knows what else.

Likewise can I also delete unnecessary files and folders on the micro SD card?

I'm hoping I can gain enough space to load the latest CN North America NT base map. As it is it won't update from Garmin Express.

So what's my choices?

I am sorry for the troubles. During the map update the preloaded image files on the Nuvi are removed so the updated map image files can be installed. If the internal memory is determined to be insufficient Garmin Express will prompt you to insert an SD card and the necessary files will be installed on the card. Garmin Express will also overwrite map image files on the SD card if used in a previous update. We do not recommend deleting any internal files unless you put them on the device yourself.

Please make sure Garmin Express is up to date. How do I update Garmin Express?

Without more information I suggest you delete the device from Express, restart the computer then add it back again. Make sure the SD card is larger than 4GB in size, 8GB is recommended. Try the map update again. If you continue to have trouble contact Garmin Product Support by phone.

  • While it may not be recommended I have always deleted unnecessary voice, vehicle, text, keyboard, help and EULA files, having first copied them to my PC so I have them if required. That does free up a fair bit of space. Having said that it may still not be enough to mean you can dispense with the sd card, but only by trying will you find out.
