2 devices, only want to sync activities for 1

I have 2 Garmin devices recording similar data (in my case an Edge 810 and a Fenix 3). Since buying my Fenix, I never synced the Edge again, worried it would create duplicate entries in my connect-overview.
As a side-effect, I also no longer install updates on the Edge.

So, in short: how do I only sync activities from the Fenix, while allowing both devices to get updates?

There is no option in Garmin Express to not sync a device. The easiest solution would be to create a second Garmin Connect account and add the Edge to that account so that the data is not duplicated.

    Thanks Jason.
And there is no way to de-duplicate the data? Posts about an Edge and a VivoFit are clear in the sense that data from 2 devices doesn't interfer with each other, would be nice to see that on the Edge/Fenix level as well.
Any plans on this for the near future?

But that would also mean that my activities are still duplicated in your database. And that - as a result of that - my KOM's, and even the attempts would end up in rankings twice ...
I don't consider this to be an elegant solution. I hope you agree.

I agree it is not the best solution but we are trying to accomplish something that is out of the ordinary. A fitness-only device's purpose is to be synced to view the data so there is no way to bypass this in Garmin Express. You can add the Fenix 3 to Garmin Express without adding a Garmin Connect account because it is not a fitness-only device.

If you are only using Garmin Express to update the firmware on your Edge, you can also remove the device from Express and update it with WebUpdater. WebUpdater is only used for firmware updates so it will not sync your device.
