Maps not downloadable to PC

A few years ago I purchased Garmap Africa Series 2012 1/2/3 Southern Africa Streetmaps TOPO & REC. This was successfully installed on both my PC and my Zumo 660. Due to a catastrophic failure of my laptop, I purchased a new laptop and decided to also purchase new maps. During the past week I purchased City Navigator Southern Africa NT. Big was my surprise and even bigger my disappointment when I found that I cannot install and use these maps on my laptop unless my Zumo is plugged into the laptop.

Research have shown that, for some reason, this is now a Garmin policy. Such a pity I did not see the fine print prior to the purchase, since I believe, having the maps available on the laptop was the one differentiator between Garmin and competitors. It was a huge convenience. Seeing the maps only with the Zumo plugged in also means I have to use BaseCamp. Mapsource was just quicker and easier for a quick check on an area. Something I need to do reasonably regularly.

A second disappointment is that the latest City Navigator Southern Africa NT is rife with errors. Errors that did not exist in the older City Navigator version (installed on my wife's Zumo 660). In a 3 or 4 km radius around my residence, I can see as many as 6 or 7 errors.

All of the above makes me want to go back to the older version of Garmap Africa Series 2012 1/2/3 Southern Africa Streetmaps TOPO & REC. The maps may be a tad outdated, but at least reasonably error free and available on my laptop. Would such a roll back be possible?
