    Syncing Issues

I have had ongoing numerous issues with the appalling flakiness of Garmin software. I have invested too much time to dump it but but get no joy from Garmin in way of assistance. Will never buy another Garmin. good luck.

The biggest issue we see with the older Forerunner 205 is that there is to much old History and possibly Workouts/Courses on the device. Please delete any History that is already uploaded to Garmin Connect and delete any Workout or Courses from the device you no longer use. Instead of uninstalling Garmin Express try just removing the device from Express and Connect then adding it back again.

How do I delete a fitness device from Garmin Express?

I am sorry for the troubles. I searched this Forum as well as the Garmin Product Support Customer contact database and could not find any of your attempts to contact Garmin Product Support for help with the issues. Garmin Product Support would be more than happy to help you get your concerns addressed. Please consider contacting them by phone. Garmin Product Support

Again, I am sorry for the troubles.

  • Tried the steps you mentioned with no luck. After removing the device and adding it back Express cannot find the drivers and I have to reinstall express. The message in the device mamnger is "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

Error 43 message generally indicates a communication issue between the device and the computer. Make sure that you are not plugging the device into a USB 3.0 port as these older devices will often not work in these ports. If you only have USB 3.0 ports, you can try plugging it in through a USB 2.0 hub (although hubs can sometimes cause other issues, it will sometimes work for this issue). If this does not solve the problem, you can try any other USB port or even another USB cable or clip/cradle for the device.

  • I have a 205 and have just done a run, Connect says there is no data to transfer, and after reinstalling Express and adding device, it recognises the device but says "Garmin Express does not support this device. It used to. I have updated USB drivers, it is plugged directly into a USB2 socket.

    What do I try next?

I am sorry your Forerunner 205 is not going back into Garmin Express. This device is still compatible with Garmin Express. If you are getting this message, it normally means there is bad data on the device causing it to be read incorrectly. Please try the following to fix this:
    • Delete all History from the device that already uploaded to Garmin Connect.
    • Delete all Workout and Courses you no longer use.
    • Power the device off and then power it back on.

Now please try adding it back to Garmin Express. If you continue having trouble, you may want to contact Garmin Product Support by phone and speak to an agent.
