Nuvi 1490LMT keeps switching to data mode

I have had this GPS for a while, never any problems. Purchased recently a 2006 Mazda Miata and in this vehicle the GPS will constantly keep switching into data transfer mode. It will initially boot and open in normal GPS map mode, but after some 10 minutes it goes to data mode. Stays in data mode for few seconds, reboots again into normal map screen and few seconds later again into data mode and so on. If I unplug the charger, it will stay in normal GPS map mode and work fine until battery is drained. Works OK with the same charger in my 2011 Toyota RAV and worked OK before in 2008 Chevy Colorado.
I have connected a ScanGauge on the Miata to see what voltage it has while running - 13.4 to 13.5 V steady. Any ideas?
