What map format can I buy that will give me lifetime updates?

Hi,

I have a Nuvie2699mt-d, with pre-installed European maps with lifetime updates.

I would like to purchase maps for North America, also with lifetime updates.

I have learned the hard way that its not possible to purchase lifetime updates for the downloadable version I bought this year.

In my one reply I got from from the Dutch support team, they said I could buy the DVD version, and I could later then buy lifetime updates. Having trusted the clarity of Garmin once before, and gotten burned by an omission in their descriptions, I decided to check myself. When I search the Garmin products, I found one place that said it was also not possible to get lifetime updates. I have emailed back to the Dutch support team 3 times since 10 August, all with no reply.

So I thought I would ask this large group who can I believe, Garmin Support, or what I found on the website myself? And most importantly, is there a way to get lifetime updates for maps that where not pre-installed?

The only way is to purchase the DVD then you can buy lifetime updates for it

Thanks, but its this kind of information that got me into trouble the last time... The only life time update I can find for the DVD says that it only works with the maps pre-installed on my device. If I am looking at the wrong purchase, could you point me to the right one.

Under Requirements its say "This product only can be used to update the preloaded maps that came installed on your device. For example, a device preloaded with North America maps cannot be updated with nüMaps Lifetime Europe, and vice versa."

I would be happy to help you with this. The Lifetime Map Update can be used with once the DVD maps have been unlocked to the device. The DVD version of City Navigator maps are eligible under our License agreement for updates regardless if it is a Onetime or a Lifetime update.

I also just found this thread which confirms what you say. It also shows that indeed the website information about the DVD and its upgradability is wrong (has been for 2 years its seems)

If only that was clear from the product page when I bought a download version and not the DVD version... $80 down the drain I guess, because NL support does not answer my requests to consider a product exchange...
