Structural problems Forerunner 305 and Garmin Express

There are so many threads in this forum regarding connectivity issues regarding Forerunners 305 (but many others as well) and Garmin Express. Just a small selection:
topic 1,topic 2,topic 3,topic 4

People follow all kinds of advice:

Resetting the watch, uninstalling Garmin Express, uninstalling USB-drivers, installing latest USB-drivers, removing watch from Garmin Express, using different usb-ports, using different usb-cables etc with no success and quite a lot of frustration.

I think there is a structural problem with several Forerunners (not only the 305) and the connectivity with Windows 10/Garmin Express. The solutions provided are cumbersome and not working. Please look into this.

Update: Recent problems seems to be related with Windows 10 systems.

I've been using Windows 7 64bit in a virtual machine and have no problem connecting my Forerunner 305 with Garmin Express. Switching back to Windows 10 and unfortunately the problem continues. Found serveral other threads as well last weeks:

FR15 no longer found in Windows 10
305 - Express - There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect

My first guess would be a Garmin usb driver mismatch in combination with Windows 10.

I am sorry that you are still having trouble. I think that the reason we see more issues with Windows 10 computers is that, because they are newer, they tend to have USB 3.0 ports. Please make sure that you are not plugging the device into a USB 3.0 port as they usually will not work for these older non-mass storage devices. If there are only USB 3.0 ports available, connecting the device through a USB 2.0 hub will sometimes help.

There is also an FAQ that may help. I know that you aren't receiving this error message, but the troubleshooting steps in the article can help this issue as well: How do I resolve the IOU_XXXXX .CPP or .HPP error?

If you are still having trouble, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone.
