Trying to update software and maps on my Nuvi 2598.

I plugged my Nuvi into my pc and Garmin Express (vs 4.1.5.0) immediately recognized it and said it was connected. It said there were map and software updates available, with an estimated install time of 3 hours and 2 minutes. I clicked Install All, accepted the Terms and Conditions, and one of the Notes said that the software updates would be installed first (2 minutes). I clicked Continue and it started downloading files. After about 30 seconds I got a message that says There was an error installing the update. I've tried several times, closing and restarting GE, disconnecting and reconnecting the Nuvi, etc, but keep getting the same results.
Any help would be appreciated.

  • I bought a Nuvi 2599 LMT-D last weekend and have a similar problem, it starts downloading and reports it will take a couple of minutes, but just hangs, no error message. I’ve left the device for several hours but still nothing.

I’ve reinstalled the software, switched off all antivirus software, fire walls, and made sure I’m not using a proxy, but it still just hangs on download.
I reported this to customer service and after trying few things now have case file running, I’ll let you know of the outcome.

  • Are you trying over wifi? If so are you able to cable directly to your modem/router?
  • Hi,

I’m not using WiFi, it’s a wired PC through a Gigabit Router with a high speed fibre optic broad band service.

  • How much free space is on your PC? Express needs up to 13Gb ...
  • Sorry only just spotted this reply,

There is 21GB free on C and a few hundred on D. If C wasn't enough would it prompt to change drive, just do it or stop. If the latter do I need to clear space or is there some other way to force it to a different drive.

I had a reply back from customer services, they are looking at my log files, but know solution yet.

    Cheers,

    Simon.

If software is looking at your log files, I would wait and see what they say. However, Express will download and build the map on the system partition. Even if Express is installed on a different drive, the download/build will still take place on the system partition. Because of this, it requires that free space be there.
