Garmin Connect Sync Issue With Edge 810

I am constantly getting a 'There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect' message every single time I try and sync my device using Garmin Express although it then also says 'Synced just now'. It is most annoying when creating courses and trying to get them across to the device. I know that there is an issue with creating them in 3rd party apps but I am creating all my courses on Garmin Connect and using the 'send to device function'

As a result of this sync issue none of my activities are syncing with Garmin Connect or being pushed to Strava like they used to. I have to manually upload the files by navigating to the 'Activties' folder on my device, this isn't too much effort but when you pay £300+ for a GPS device you expect the basic functionality like being able to create courses, upload and view activities etc to be working. This sync issue has been ongoing since June and I have tried removing my device from Express and re-pairing and still nothing. Is there a fix? :mad:
  • I am sorry for the troubles. There maybe some corrupt data on the computer that got stuck transferring between Connect and the Edge. I suggest you start by removing the association with Strava and Connect. See the FAQ: What if my segment or activity data is not syncing between Garmin Connect and Strava?

    Next, use the instructions in the FAQ: What should I do if I am unable to sync my mass storage fitness device using Garmin Express? to clear possible corrupt FIT files from the computer.

    Finally, add the device back to Express/Connect then reassociate with Strava.

    If you continue to have trouble please contact Garmin Product Support by phone. The issue sounds like it is a local one and could be corrected quickly via phone.

  • Garmin Edge 810 serious issues with Garmin Connect

    My Edge 810 is 18 months old and it was reliable for the most part with the exception of sync issues with the iPhone app far and few between which were corrected quickly. The issue with the connection now is a hard one and it has not been corrected. I have contacted Garmin with all the troubleshooting steps I have performed. I work in IT so pretty well versed on how to keep my os and apps updated, clean cache, remove and start with fresh installs. I let Garmin CS know and the answer I received was a standard tier one script of how to remove everything and install things fresh. The responses must be automated because if a person received my email they should have read that I did everything in the email and still having issues.

    My issues are: The Garmin app starts to sync and says it's complete but my rides never make up to the site or on the phones screen, livetrack doesn't work (a safety issue with me because I ride alone and very earlier in the morning), after the sync doesn't work I try to manually upload the ride using the app and it fails, then the best part the Garmin Edge 810 freezes up by not working while the screen is on or the Edge 810 just turns off and requires that I depress the power button until it restarts. I have the latest OS and the Connect app is the only one available on the apps store.

    The troubleshooting I did prior to the email Garmin sent me and in the email I sent them.

    I have removed the Edge 810 pairing from my phone
    I have restored factory setting on the 810.
    I renamed the 810 and depressed the power button until it recycled.
    I have removed the connect app
    I have did a hard reboot to my iPhone 5.
    I connected the Edge 810 via Bluetooth
    I did another hard reboot of my iPhone 5.
    I have reinstalled the Connect app via app store
    I did a third hard reboot of my phone just to make sure all the cache is clear
    I went out for a ride connected the app and it froze after the sync. I removed the app and depressed the Edge 810's power button until it turned off and turned on again. I rode with out the app and the Garmin worked fine.

    At this point my Garmin Edge810 is a standalone bike computer with no connection with my phone. I now use Road ID since my live tracking is not working. When I get home I use the Garmin Express app to upload my rides.

    I see from your post that you have tried to manually upload the ride using the "app". Are you referring to GCM? Or are you referring to the manual import using a computer and Garmin Connect in a browser?

    If you have not tried the manual upload using your computer, try the troubleshooting in the FAQ Curt mentioned:

    If the upload fails, the activity is corrupted. There are multiple places on this forum to locate how to fix a corrupted file. There should be some in the Edge 810 forum:

    Corrupted data should be removed from the device and a chkdsk ran to make sure there is no problem with the device file system:
