Garmin Express problems

Former Member

Hello

Today I went back to Garmin Express to check if there were any map updates for my device. I haven’t used Garmin Express for about a year.

I am having some problems.

Firstly, I have 2 devices registered with Garmin Express but they do not appear. All i get is a new white screen with “Add a Device” instead of the old screen that listed my devices. How do i choose my device please? I have a nuvi 2545, and i connected it via usb. My operating system is Windows 7.

Secondly, the Garmin Express app says it is version 4.0.15.0. When i press the link “Check for Updates to Express” a progress bar appears with a disabled install button. When the progress bar gets to about half of the way along it says “Failed” in red with no explanation. I have tried it 5 times with the same result.

thanks ...
  • 1. 4.1.5 is the latest version. If your version isn't updating to it then I suggest a complete uninstall then reinstall. Details for installing the new version can be found here

    https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={f9ca1dc0-4020-11e2-e8a7-000000000000}

    2. Having updated, connect your device to your PC then select Add a device. Express should identify your GPS.

Thanks for the quick reply and solution

I have uninstalled and re-installed Garmin Express and although it has still forgotten the devices i had stored, i have successfully added one of them again and registered it again using the "Add a device" option and am now downloading the new software and map updates.

Curiously I did actually try "Add a device" with the v4.0.15.0 version of Garmin Express and it told me my device was no longer supported by Garmin Express and i should use Garmin Map Updater. Rather a misleading message - I think that it should have said that i needed to update to the latest version!

    thanks again for your help...

    Uh oh, more problems

I started the map update some 8 hours ago. It said it would take 5 and a half. I have been up about an hour and it is stuck on "46 minutes" left and the progress bar is less than a quarter of the way through. What do i do if it is stuck as it tells me i can't unplug it and i need it today! thanks...

ignore the log file, that was me going into the settings and cancelling.

Still stuck on 46 mins left and nothing happening, so will have to unplug and try again another day.

In looking at your device on our database, it appears that the map update is hanging on the downloading process since it has not activated the new map to your device yet. Try the troubleshooting in our FAQ What should I do if I am having problems downloading updates in Garmin Express?

If you continue to experience problems, contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.

I tried it again overnight and this time it downloaded ok, but then had an error that the device was not connected even though it was. Unplugged it and plugged it back in again and it resumed for the installation, complained about being unplugged again, plugged it in again and then it completed successfully
