Download to microSDHC disk stops at 50%

I have a Garmin Nuvi 40 purchased in the UK.
I'm traveling to the US in a few days. I purchased a map for North America. When I tried to download it to my device I was told I didn't have enough space. (It would have been nice if I was told that BEFORE I bought it). So I bought a memory card and inserted it into the device. It is recognized and the download begins. However, it stops at 50% and even though it estimates 10 more minutes it has been like that for hours. I have tried it numerous times.

I checked the manual and the instructions for using the memory card only cover copying files stored locally to the card.
Unfortunately downloading locally is not an option.
Does the memory card need to be formatted?
At the moment it is FAT32.

Has anyone run into this?
I feel like I paid good money for nothing.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • FAT32 is correct. Are you able to try another memory card?

Well I had to go out and buys this one. I could buy another one but I feel I'm pouring money into something that doesn't work
The card is recognized. I can access it in file explorer. It is the download that freezes.

Thanks Lisa - I'll check it out. I searched the knowledge base but didn't find that. I contacted support two days ago but heard nothing back.

A shame the FAQ hasn't been updated to remove reference to the now deprecated Communicator plug-in...

I completed all the recommendations on the FAQ. Now I can not even load the Garmin webpage without receiving the error message below (surprise surprise it won't let me upload the screenshot!).
Error is Internet Explorer has stopped working. Only option: Close program.

I have requested a refund. I have wasted enough time and energy on this and now am going on vacation so it's too late.

PS: support finally replied with just the exact info included in the FAQ.
