Sync Issue with new Garmin Edge 25 after firmware update

Just got my Garmin Edge 25 and having issues with Garmin Express trying to send courses to it. I successfully sent a single course to the device, then it prompted me to upgrade to v2.30. After that, I can no longer sync courses via Express. I'm creating the course the same way; download GPX from Strava, upload to Garmin Connect, convert ride to Course, Sync to Device. Then I plug in the device and launch Express. It tells me I have a new item ready to install. I choose Install All and it starts the moving 'syncing' progress bar. That just runs forever. I've even let it run overnight. Nothing... just spins and spins. The device is clear "connected" in the status window. If I unplug it and replug it (or stop/restart Express) it will come up with the "There was an error syncing" error message. It let's you try again, but does the same thing.

Any ideas?
Thanks

I am sorry for the troubles. Courses created from third party .GPX files will not sync with fitness devices. You'll need to create the Course manually in Garmin Connect then it will sync with the Edge. This issue has been reported but I do not have an ETA on when it will be resolved.

Thanks for the prompt reply.... Bummer news though.

Is there an official area for product feedback and suggestions? IT seems like a basic function to be able to deal with generic GPX files, especially since several of my other Garmin devices have successfully done so.

Unfortunately the suggestion to build a course manually using the online course building tool is not an option for many of us. The tool appears to be completely useless for mountain biking because it's based on street maps and turning at known road intersections.

    Thanks

PS - For those that are looking to manually import GPX files and courses onto your Edge20/25, see this thread:

New Express software - Problem with uploading courses

I have the same issue. I'm trying to send a course created in Connect via express to my Fenix 2. Since the new Express software update I am constantly getting an error saying failed to sync with Garmin Connect. I use my Fenix 2 for navigation so not being able to upload courses is a big issue for me. Does anyone know a work around until the Express issue is fixed?

I would be happy to help you with this. The issue with sending Courses from Connect is centered around the fact that the Course in Connect is built around a .gpx file uploaded to Garmin Connect. Depending on the creator of the .gpx file it can be Imported into Garmin BaseCamp as a track then sent to the fenix 2. Once on the device you should be able to use it for navigation. The Garmin Connect Team is aware of the issue with creating Courses from third party .gpx files and working on a solution.

    Transfer Error STILL with v2.50

I have the same problem. My Edge 25 is only 4 days old. 2 days ago it updated to v2.30 and can no longer send tracks or courses to device from Connect. This morning it updated to v2.50. Problem STILL not fixed :-( Very frustrating as I have an event coming up and cannot upload to it, as advertised. When is this getting fixed? Do I need to get a refund? :(

According to your account you do not have any Courses saved. Click on the menu (three lines) on the left then Courses. You can create a new course then send it to the Edge from there. If you are sending a previous activity directly from the activity details page, chose the option to Save as Course first then send it from the Courses menu. I saved your Cabbage Tree ride there as an example.

To create a course in Garmin Connect:

    • Sign into Garmin Connect
    • Locate Courses widget from Dashboard or use the sidebar
    • Select Create Course
    • Click on map to add your first point
    • Click on map to add additional points
    • Name Course
    • Save Course
    • Click Send to Device

    From a previous activity:

    • Select desired activity
    • Select gear icon in upper right of activity page
    • Select Save as Course
    • Click Send to Device

If you are having a sync issue not related to sending Courses please see the FAQ: What should I do if I am unable to sync my mass storage fitness device using Garmin Express?
