There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect

Hi,

I have been syncing a Forerunner 410 with Garmin Connect for a while. But for the last few weeks (including today) I have only got "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect" in Garmin Express 4.1.3.0 (and 4.1.4.0 today) on my Win 8.1 computer using an ANT+ USB2 Wireless stick.

I have used "Force Send" a few times during the last few weeks, but consistently get "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect".

I read something about a new version fixing this kind of problem, but as I still see the same problem I decided to ask for help here. What can I do?

regards,
Jan
  • You might try the steps here although your problem is different http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId={dd8e8b20-ef1e-11e2-7dd9-000000000000}&kbName=garmin

It does though explain certain things that might resolve your issue.
  • Thanks, I tried all this but the problem remains the same. I tested just now and still get "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect"

What is the next step to try to resolve this? Any ideas?

    regards,
    Jan

  • Latest version is now 4.1.5 ...

I'd try updating to that then disconnect and repair your devices.
  • Thanks, I should have mentioned I was already upgraded to 4.1.5.0

You mean I have to give the device to Garmin for repair?

    regards,
    Jan
  • No I mean uninstall your device and then re- pair it.
  • Thank you for your patience :-)

I have now uninstalled the device from Garmin Express (Remove Device > Keep in Garmin Connect) and then re-paired it with "Add a device".

Unfortunately I still get the same error "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect", also after using Force resend from the watch.

Do you have even more ideas what to do?

    regards,
    Jan
  • I have the same problem with Forerunner 15. Constant sync problems. I have to try and try and sometimes it takes a few days. Today...nothing.
Would LOVE to get this resolved. Love my device but really irritated by the constant sync problem.
  • I am sorry for the troubles. Sync errors are almost always caused by corrupt data on the device or on the computer. Please use the FAQ's below to locate and remove the files then refresh the connection with Garmin Express and Connect and syncing should resume uninterrupted for some time.

    Forerunner 15 (mass storage device):
What should I do if I am unable to sync my mass storage fitness device using Garmin Express?

    Forerunner 410 (ANT Agent device):
What can I try when my ANT Fitness device will not sync with Garmin Express?

Removing the device from both Garmin Express and Garmin Connect then adding it back again can also resolve some issues.
How do I delete a fitness device from Garmin Express?

As a last resort the device will have to be Master Reset. It is best to master reset a device when it is completely removed from the Express and Connect.

How do I master reset my Forerunner 410, 405CX or 405?
How do I master reset my Forerunner 10? Steps are the same for the 15.

If you continue to have trouble please contact Garmin Product Support by phone.

  • Thank you very much for this information.

However, even if I have tried several times the last day, your links does not work for me. I get error messages like this:

    An Error Occurred:

    An exception occurred processing JSP page /searchSupport/case.jsp at line 18 15: 16: <html xmlns="www.w3.org/.../xhtml"> 17: 18: <f:view locale="#{kanaSearchHandler.locale}"> 19: <f:loadBundle basename="LocalizationResources" var="i18n" /> 20: <!-- This is intentionally commented out. I found "What can I try when my ANT Fitness device will not sync with Garmin Express?" on support.garmin.com/.../case.faces ,
but I have not been able to retrieve the information "How do I delete a fitness device from Garmin Express?"

Do you know when this problem will be fixed?

I am unable to reproduce the issue you are experiencing with the webpage. I would suggest resetting the browser or trying a different one. However, I have pasted the content of the article below. Please note that some of the article may not format correctly being pasted here:

In some circumstances, Garmin Express will be unable to sync with a wireless ANT Fitness device. Follow the steps below to troubleshoot issues syncing with Garmin Express.

NOTE - This article assumes your device has been successfully paired with Garmin Express. If you are unable to complete the initial pairing process, follow the steps in the FAQ What troubleshooting steps should I try if I am unable to pair my ANT fitness device to Garmin Express?

    Device Communication -

Verify that the USB ANT stick is connected properly to the computer
Connect the ANT stick to a different USB port
Avoid connecting the ANT stick through a USB hub, extension cable, laptop dock, or USB port on the monitor or keyboard
    Eliminate obstacles to wireless communication
Place the device within 9 feet (3 meters) of the ANT stick
ANT devices broadcast at 2.4 GHz, which is a frequency used by many other wireless devices. Avoid placing devices that use Bluetooth, WiFi, or any other wireless communication protocol directly next to or between the ANT stick and device.
Verify that the memory on the device is not running low. Once an activity is uploaded to Garmin Connect it should be deleted from the device.
Ensure that the device is not in power save mode1
    Garmin Express -

Update Garmin Express to the latest available version
    Windows:

    Open Garmin Express
Click the Settings (gear) icon in the upper right corner of the application window
Click Check for Updates to Express
Follow the prompts to install the update if a new version is available
    Mac OS X:

    Open Garmin Express
Click Garmin Express in the menu bar at the top left-hand corner of the screen
    Click About Garmin Express
Click Check for Updates to Express
Follow the prompts to install the update if a new version is available
Ensure that the time, date, and time zone on the computer are set correctly
    Windows Vista
    Windows 7
    Windows 8
    Mac OS X
Follow the instructions in this FAQ to delete corrupt data from the computer's hard drive: How do I remove FIT files that fail to sync in Garmin Express from my computer?
Create a test activity on the device and attempt to sync the data again
Save a 15-second lap on the device and wait 2 minutes for Garmin Express to pick up the new activity
This test activity can be deleted from Connect after a successful sync
After these steps are performed, the device should be able to sync with Garmin Express. If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact Product Support.
