Garmin express/connect is great big steaming fail

I've just spent 3 hours trying to do something that should take 5 minutes. That is, download a course. I've tried on both my edge 800 and my 920xt and keep getting an error. I've uninstalled each device and reinstalled. I've uninstalled Garmin Express and reinstalled. I've tried restarting the computer.

Garmin Connect wont let you manually download, and for some reason in classic view it doesn't have all the courses I've created.

I've tried everything I cant think of and it still wont download. Garmin really need to get their act together. I love their devices but trying to get information on/off them is an absolute nightmare.

Ready to throw all the devices and computer off the balcony.
  • You can manually download by going to Activities and selecting the Import button. There is information on Connect here http://connect.garmin.com/en-US/help/how-to/

As for your other issues, perhaps you could explain how/where it's failing as it's difficult to know from what you say what the issue could be. For example you say you get an error but not when that's appearing or what it is?

I am sorry for the troubles. There is an issue with sending Courses to mass storage devices like the Edge 800 and Forerunner 920XT with the latest version of Garmin Express 4.1.4. When sending the Course from Connect the Sync bar in Garmin Express will get stuck about half way. The Course files are successfully sent it to the device but Express fails to progress. Check the device and the Courses should be there.

This latest version of Garmin Express is only available to 10% of users. Uninstalling it then installing a previous version from the link below will resolve the issue until the next release.

    "download.garmin.com/.../GarminExpress.exe"

    Thanks for your advice everyone.

I thought I finally got it going but today I went to download a couple of apps for the 920XT (well, replace is a better word because everything got wiped the other day when I was trying fix everything). They downloaded to Garmin Express but then it searched and searched and couldn't find my device. I went to the device and tried manually switching on "connect to wifi" and after a period of time searching it kept coming up with the message "network error. try again later".

Kurt, clicking on the link sends me a "page not found" error message.

I like garmin products but really the software is terrible. I cant stand having to run everything through garmin express and I've always had problems. I should have known better than to get the forerunner. Next time Ill go with another brand.

The issue with the Sync bar stopping halfway when sending data to a device from Garmin Connect was resolved in the Garmin Express update 4.1.5 released today. Please update Express to the latest version. See the FAQ: How do I update Garmin Express? If you have trouble with the link please make sure the web browser is up to date or you can search for the articles title at https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/search.htm

If Garmin Express cannot find your device when it is connected to the computer via USB cradle see the FAQ: What can I do if my fitness mass storage device is not being recognized by the computer?

Once the computer will recognize, delete the 920XT from Garmin Express and Garmin Connect then add it back again. FAQ: How do I delete a fitness device from Garmin Express?

If you continue to have troubles please contact Garmin Product Support by phone. I am confident your problem could be resolved in only a matter of minutes.
