Uninstalling Garmin Express

I'm trying to uninstall the program, but it won't let me. I'm using Windows 7 on a laptop. I have an older version of Garmin Express, and I want to uninstall it completely and then upgrade to the newer version.
What's happening is when I go to control panel, and clicking the uninstall option, it goes to a "Initializing" window and it freezes or just hangs there.
The same situation happened when I tried upgrading it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  • I don't know if this is your problem but others who have had similar issues found that the dialog box to proceed with the uninstall appeared off the side of the display so they couldn't see it or click OK. Since laptops sometimes have a lesser resolution than larger desktop displays, that could be your problem.

When you do the uninstall, press alt-tab to see if there is a window listed that you can't see.

It sounds like the installer/uninstaller component is either missing or damaged in some way. This can happen from time to time especially if there is some type of PC cleaner on the computer. There's no real way to know what happened here but the short of it is that the uninstall package of the software is just not initializing. Even though there's no error message popping up indicating a "msi" issue the steps may be the same to resolving your problem. See the FAQ: What should I do if the computer cannot find the .msi file when updating a Garmin Software Application? If this does not resolve your issue or you would like someone to work with you directly to remove Express I highly recommend contacting support in this instance.
