Error Updating Mapa nuvi 52

Hello,

Brand new nuvi 52. Installed Garmin Express and updated software and maps. Software updated successfully, but the maps update keeps erroring out when it almost gets done. Device, on every power up, keeps making me acknowledge EULA then comes up with "Detailed maps are required for routing. No detailed maps were found on this device." I followed the FAQ at

support.garmin.com/.../case.faces

When I go to check the map info, there is only a blank screen. Garmin Express is up to date, but when I go to re-download the maps again I just keep getting the same error when it almost gets done.

A new device should not be so trouble ridden. I am hoping someone here can help, otherwise I will have to return it and get a TomTom.

Thanks,
Darrell

It sounds like the file transfer is failing. If you are using a desktop, make sure you are connecting the device to a port on the back of the tower as the ones on the front are typically hubs. It is not recommended to use any hub or extension cable as it can cause communication issues and interrupt the file transfer.

If the transfer fails again, contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.

Impossible with the 1' cord out of the box.

I am sorry for the troubles. No interaction with the nuvi is required during a map update so it can rest on top of the PC tower or behind it if needed. If you have another USB Data transfer cable that fits you could try that as well, just avoid designated USB charging cables. The nuvi is essentially a USB Flash drive so issues with transferring files are usually hardware related. You can use the FAQ below to run a check disk and/or attempt the update on a different computer.

How do I run a check disk or disk utility on my Garmin mass storage device?

Again, I am sorry for the troubles.

    Hi Lisa,

Thanks for responding. Your post reminded me of a time I restored my iPhone from an iTunes backup. The only way it would work is to unplug my Logitech Webcam from a different port (maybe on the same "hub"). So I again unplugged it, and the map update completed quickly with no problems.

Lesson learned - only plug in the Webcam when in use ;)
