Nuvi 3597 update 4.20 keeps failing?

I have a Nuvi 3597 and am using Garmin Express to update map and software. Going through the process I keep getting "There was an error installing the update." In the step where I unplug the device from the computer, it seems to be restating and installing, then the screen goes black and the normal Garmin main menu comes up. Then, when I plug it back into the computer I get the error message in Garmin Express.

I've tried this three times and the same thing happens. Any ideas?

That pertains to a problem from the PC side, like downloading the update from the internet. My problem seems to come from the Nuvi: it is installing then quits.

It covers the error message you said you were getting. If the update isn't installing that explains your other problem

Here's what the Nuvi says when unpluging from the computer and then powering on the Nuvi:

"There are additional updates that require the device to restart. This may take several minutes. Restart now?

Installing update files" There is a green bar for awhile on the Nuvi, then the screen goes black and then goes to the main menu.

Does the nuvi 3597 continuously prompt on reboot to "restart to install updates"? Or was it just the one time? Have you tried deleting the device from Garmin Express?

I recommend deleting the device from Garmin Express, reboot the computer and then add the device back. Is the map update the only update offered now? If not, try just performing the software updates and don't start the map update yet. Does it fail? If the map update is the only update offered and you run it, does it error out and if so at what stage of the update process?

If any of the updates continue to fail, contact Product Support by phone with this information for further assistance.

At the end of the thread below fixed it, installing a new version of Garmin Express.

Except now, I can't get BaseCamp to load because of other Microsoft .NET issues?

A reply to my previous post, now I figured out why BaseCamp wouldn't run. I needed to install a new version of it too. I seem to be good now.
