Nuvi 255W won't connect to computer

Hello...

I just found this Nuvi 255W at a thrift store for $10. It turns on, works, but for some reason, it won't go into USB storage mode. I can't get my computer to see it so I can update it. I have windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Any suggestions?

When I plug it into the computer, it shows the connected symbol and starts a loading bar. When the loading bar finishes it vanishes, but after a moment the Nuvi starts the boot cycle and then runs as if not plugged in, telling me not to operate the Nuvi while driving and so on.

Are you using a known working data transfer cable and not a charging cable? Have you tried multiple ports on the computer? You can try to master reset the device, that sometimes clears any corrupted setting that is blocking the device from going into mass-storage mode.

How do I perform a master reset on a Garmin automotive device?

Otherwise, when this model of device does not go into mass-storage mode, it needs to be replaced.
