Edge 810 - "This device is not compatible with Garmin Express"

Former Member

What a totally nasty thing!! I'm having brand new Edge 810 and after 2 days it stopped working with Express. WebUpdater works. USB cables are OK. Same result on all computers I have tried. I am running 3.6 firmware.

My idea is that this is somehow associated with the records, which Express is saving whether on HDD or on Garmin servers.

Anybody solved this issue?

    You are right..

    a guess

are you all using multiple computers with GE installed on
and having the problem after using your device on another computer ?

Yes, I have installed Garmin Connect on to my smart phone and was logged in all time. Now I loggout out on my smart phone but the problem remained.

Have you got an idea what to do? Thank you for your answer!
  • I've the same problem, i've unboxed my 810 today. Never used before and is totally brand new!!!
I have only installed the GE 810 on my mbpRetina. (so Mac platform)

Can't come up with a solution...

To take my route/course to the gps i've to:
    1) from garmin connect make my route
    2) syncronize it with my iPhone 4S (mbpRetina with smartphone)
    3) sync the smartphone with the gps (810) through bluetooth

    Hope someone can help us.

    Thank in advance

Thanks, but doesn't work older version

try to find an older Garmin Express version pref. version 4.0.23.0 :(

Don't waste your time with installing older versions, do not work... I have tried 4.0.23.0 and 4.0.24.0 and 4.0.20.0. Same result... :-(

Something else... maybe authentication / athorithy problem. (Another copy of the program on smartphone made some trouble... ?)

    not the database issue...

must be the same problem they had in July 2014
    ...database issue on Garmin side

I bought my equipment a month ago at may 15. 2015. It was working fine for 3 weeks without problem with Garmin Express. So I don't think the version of the software is bad. Something else.

Then I bougth a new smartphone and installed Garmin Mobile Connect app on it. I have tried out bluetooth connection too and was working fine. Unfortunatelly that time I had no occasion to have any ride so I did not use Garmin Express for synchronization on my PC. This means I only detected the failure yestarday after my last ride.

(and I was logged in to Garmin Connect homepage via my smartphone for almost 2 weeks constantly parallel the PC connection-that's why I think of authentication / athorithy problem. )

Waiting for new ideas... thank you!
  • Sounds so rare that a big company like Garmin sells products with this issues.....

Mine is totally brand new.....first opening and first delusion...

    what a pity...

    Don't worry!

I wrote an email yestarday to Garmin support, now waiting for the answer. I'll post it for you, but until it you can use your device and synchronize it with Garmin Connect manually on Activities. Look at the picture...

    Garmin express is junk

Unfortunately your experiences do not surprise me ... I keep having trouble with Garmin Express - I am not a "techie", but I have a PC running Windows 7, so nothing special or complicated, but just about every time I want to upload new rides Garmin Express fails to recognise my 810. This is totally unacceptable ... an 810 is an expensive piece of kit - it should be easy to upload your latest rides, instead I always approach this task with trepidation. I would suggest you take it back to the shop and get a refund! At least then Garmin might start paying attention.
