Cannot install Full Coverage Map on nuvi 2597

Hi,

I just purchased the nuvi 2597 and was going through the process of updating the gps.

Upon loading Garmin Express, a few updates are listed and I was able to install everything EXCEPT the Full Coverage of North America (File Size: 5.25GB)

I always get an error saying that the install failed.

Is this because I do not have a microsd card?

I was under the assumption that it would overwrite the maps already installed on the device.

  • If there is insufficient space on your nuvi to install the full map, Garmin Express should give you the option to use a SD card. If you are not seeing that option, it is likely the problem is a different issue.
  • It should overwrite the maps. I say 'should' because it may not happen depending on how they've been installed/named but I would have thought on a new nuvi all should be fine. Equally if a card is needed Express should prompt you to install one so something else is possibly wrong here. The Garmin Express team should be along shortly and able to help.

    I checked the database and the map update has not progressed far enough to unlock the City Navigator North America NT 2015.40 mapping yet. This would indicate that the update is failing during the Downloading stage. Try the suggestions in our FAQ What should I do if I am having problems downloading updates in Garmin Express?

    If the update continues to fail, contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.

    Thanks for all the replies guys. I appreciate the quick feedback.

    I will start with Troubleshooting the Download, and go from there. Hopefully that is the problem.

    Problem solved - Insufficient Hard Disk space

    Just a FYI in case someone else comes across similar problems.

    The reason I was getting the error was because I did not have enough room on my hard drive. (I only had about 4GB free)

    So I freed up about 19GB just to be sure and it worked.

  • That will explain it, note this is shown in the Express system requirements where it states up to 13Gb may be required.
