Express on Windows tablet - C: disk space insufficient for map install

Hello everybody,
I hope this question has not been posted and answered already .... I searched the forum but couldn't find a solution.
My problem is:

- new HP tablet (Win 8.1 32) with original free space of about only 8.7 GB on C: and another 64 GB on a micro SD card (mounted as D: and at the same time as C:\SD64)
- tablet is needed while traveling - to use Base Camp or Mapsource for planning routes for my Zümo 390 LM
- Installed Garmin Express (on D: now)
- when trying to install 2016.10 Europe maps on the tablet the install fails due to whatever problem (Express doesn't tell me why).
- I suspect insufficient disk space on C: to be the reason because there is huge data stored on C:\ProgramData\Garmin\... on different locations.

As I cannot free more disk space on C: and I cannot find any way to change the path where Express is storing its data I seem to be stuck on this ... ?

Maybe somebody can give me a hint how to get the maps onto my tablet? Would be very kind :)
As I am having the whole stuff (Express, maps, ...) on my desktop PC - is there maybe a way to extract the MSI installer set to be used to install the map set directly on the tablet? I tried this once in just calling the *.msi on the network drive but this failed :(

Thanks a lot for some hints!

The system requirements for Express is 13GB of free space. Now Express will allow maps to be installed on an additional hard drive but this hard drive must be an internal hard drive not removable media. See the FAQ: When should I use the alternate install feature of Garmin Express?

    Thanks a lot, Mike.
maybe, I should be a bit more specific about my installation:
Following a Microsoft hint the installed micro SD card has been mounted at C:\SD64. Then, I installed Express successfully at C:\SD64\Programs\Garmin\... . This, because Express is regarding this path to be on a local hard drive while it is physically on the SD card (what Express cannot see). Microsoft is writing that this is a common practice on Windows tablet computers.

My problem with Express (4.0.23) seems not to be to be that there are no 13 GB free at installation time but at the later map download and installation time:
    - unfortunately, I cannot choose a location where on the PC the maps shall be installed. There is a widget to do so but it doesn't work.:(
    - This widget is displaying the map install path (C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps) and there is a small blue icon right next to it which I would expect to be clickable. But this is not an object representing a link or accepting any mouse action. And I cannot edit the path in the widget.
    - Therefore I just cannot change the path displayed.
    - Then, when trying to install and when it stops:
    - there is a lot of data (more than 4GB I think; it's an install kit) below C:\...\Garmin\CoreService\...\IMG\... ... (can't remember exact location, but it's on C:)
    - the directory "download" below CoreService is empty again at that time

I could imagine that (as it was on my desktop with an older Express release) if I could change the install path to somewhere else (e.g. C:\SD64\...), my problem could be solved.
But for this the path in that Express widget (PC install of maps) had to be working correctly. Can you maybe have a look into this?

What about to take the dataset from my desktop PC where everything is installed correctly and then somehow bring it to my tablet? Is there a chance in doing so?

I think that my use case (travel with a Windows tablet using Base Camp) is not exotic. Those devices usually are having very limited disk space due to their hardware architecture. Less than 10 GB is quite common and you can expand by using micro SDs. I find that Garmin should alter its map install products in order to enable users of such state-of-the-art devices. There will be many users you could help.

Thanks a lot for your attention

I understand your situation, you can avoid installing the maps all together simply by connecting the Zumo to the tablet. Garmin BaseCamp will read the maps from the device while it is connected allowing you to plan routes etc.. BaseCamp's ability to read the maps from the device is the implemented solution for situations like these. I do not expect the minimum requirements to be modified in regards to required free space on the system drive.

    Thank you Curt

And what about a working "select the maps storage path" widget in Express?
This can be regarded as bug, isn't it?

    Cheers

PS: the read maps solution of Basecamp doesn't really help a Mapsource junkie ...
