Express refuses to sync (download) courses from Garmin Connect

Once again, Express + Connect refuse to sync courses from Connect onto my Garmin 310xt. Multiple uninstalls, re-installs have not fixed the issue. Customer service recommended upgrading to the latest express client. Makes no difference. Course as simple as half a mile, one turn, with a 3-character name won't sync. Activities are syncing from the unit up.

Error message gives no information, just says there was an error syncing. Then, it shows an item in the queue (the course) and no matter how many times you tell it to sync, it throws up the red bar.

I would love it if Garmin would quit breaking easy stuff like this.

BTW, multiple purges of the download folder didn't help. And these are courses created on Garmin connect, so it they're corrupt, it's because connect is creating corrupt courses.
  • I am still having the same problem with Workouts on my 310xt. Data will go from my watch to the web but NOT from the web to my watch. I also create the files with Garmin Connect so I don't understand how they would get corrupt.

It's very upsetting because this feature was awesome when it worked and it was one of the main reasons I selected this watch at the time.

I got some nonsense answers from Garmin CS (uninstall everything, blah blah blah, make sure you don't have a pile of working microwave ovens between the unit and the Ant stick, make sure there's no Russian EMP going on during sync, etc.) and then one tech who said they're aware of the issue and that I should use classic view of Garmin Connect as a workaround. But classic view tries to use the Garmin Connect plugin, and that has no connection to my 310xt. Maybe I need to install ant agent for that to work, and he neglected to mention that. (And, of course, you have to uninstall Garmin Express for Ant Agent to work, and even then, in my experience, Ant Agent is sort of slow and iffy.)

It would be nice if they just fixed the stuff that used to work back to working again. I use courses all the time when running unfamiliar trails and to plot routes for unfamiliar cities. Having it broken during trail running season is a major fail for Garmin. Not as big a fail as the Fenix series (worst GPS unit I've ever used...) but still, an impressive bit of bumbling. It used to be so easy to put courses on these devices. Now it's a nightmare.
  • That might work for Courses but isn't an option for Workouts. Workouts are only available in "Modern."

Apparently, there was some corrupt file on the unit. A master reset freed things up, and courses sync now.
