Problem pairing 910xt to Garmin Express

I have had issues syncing so I reinstalled the latest version of GE and am trying to pair my device to it. The first few steps go fine, it finds my device, correct serial etc., it accepts my login to GC it allows me to allocate a "nickname" to the watch then I get to the screen for finishing and it gets stuck with the message "please wait while we finish setting up your device". This is were it stays. I have tried on two different computers with exactly the same results. I have tried numerous times, even using a different nickname each time and GC is clearly connecting as this changes accordingly.

How can I fix this, I run 4-5 times a week and use GC heavily as a training tool.

  • I am sorry for the troubles. Have you tried logging into your Connect account through a web browser then deleting the Forerunner 910XT. Deleting the device from the account does no harm. All Activities uploaded remain in the account. Express is trying to add a device that is already there. This usually is no problem but based on your description, removing the device from Express might resolve the issue.

    Thanks for your response. Tried your suggestion, deleted device, i also logged out. Unfortunately same thing happened and GE stalled at the last part. I closed everything down, rebooted and then logged into GC. Low and behold my device is present again, this time it is prompting me to update the firmware. So I clicked "send now" and it prompts me to open GE, in doing this all i get is the "add device" option.

    Any other ideas?

    I also forgot to add my workouts have disappeared from my watch.

      When you add the 910XT to Garmin Express you should be prompted to update Software update if it is needed. Check the software version on the 910XT.

      • Press Mode
      • Select Settings
      • Select About Forerunner

      The latest version is 3.20, released Sept 2014. If the device is successfully added to Garmin Express you should get the prompt to update the software. Sending the update from Connect to Express is not necessary. Sometimes the watch is already up to date but the update get stuck in the Connect Sync menu and needs to be manually deleted.

      I have noticed that when adding a device to Express that is still in Connect, there is a delay in the Finishing Up stage. If you wait this out it should add. I will see if I can find proof of this correlation and report it to the Express developers.

      If all else fails and nothing seems to be working as it should I recommend you Master Reset the 910XT then start again or contact us by phone. Once the watch is up to date and properly communicating with Express and Connect then Workouts can be sent from Connect. Just FYI to avoid confusion, Workouts and Activities frequently get mistaken for each other when communicating via the forums. Activities = History on the watch where as Workout = Workouts.

      Problem is now resolved, unfortunately it needed the hard reset and i lost a couple of activities.
