Kenwood 9350BT problem updating Map with Garmin Express

Hello,

i bought a Kenwood 9350BT recently - this is an Asian version. I bought a one time update to Hong Kong/Macau maps (download) on the Garmin USA site.

This gives you an order confirm and a button to download the new map.

When you click this it kicks you over to the Kenwood.Garmin website which has a button to 'update your device' - FYI this site asks you to enter your my.garmin.com info which I did.

you click 'product updates' and it reads the SD card on my computer and asks me if this device (Kenwood 9350BT) is my device. I click 'yes'. It then says "Map Update Pending" - Eureka!! Well not.

I click that button, it says "preparing download" - then it downloads Garmin express (which I already have).

My device is present on Garmin express (Kenwood 2014 9350bt) - i click "check for updates" - it buzzes for 2 seconds and says I am up to date. No map update. No map file on my computer. No map file on my SD Card.

I check back to Kenwood.Garmin - it says the download is still available, product ID HFS7GJQL, expiration May 8 2016.

TL;DR - I bought a map download, I click download, it launches garmin express, garmin express isn't updating my map.

Am I doing something wrong?

What map was originally installed to your device? A one time update is ONLY for updating your original map. If instead you want a new map area you've bought the wrong product, which would explain why it's not working.

there were no maps installed which I thin is strange (I bought it from 12v.com in Malaysia). I had actually figured that out a few minutes before you posted :)

So, I subsequently bought the City Navigator® Southeast Asia NT

After paying and getting a download link I got :

This device doesn't support City Navigator® Southeast Asia NT (795MB).
Please connect a different device and try again.

Kenwood 2014 - S/N 1011483403 (7451 MB available) Device not supported

I suppose this means that the SD card is somehow not compatible with that map set either.

So I am at a loss. I guess I have to call Garmin or Kenwood and ask but of course they are closed until Monday.

Very frustrating. Any advice appreciated. The Kenwood.Garmin site doesn't tell you how to get maps, it tells you to go to Garmin. So I go to garmin and can't seem to buy any maps that work although the first was clearly my fault.

There only appear to be 2 HK maps (the update and SE asia).
