Nuvi 2545 does not recognize on either Mac or Win8

Hi, I have been using my Nuvi 2545 for almost 2 years now, and everything was super fine, until one day I suddenly found my Nuvi showing no Maps at all. The symptom was

-no maps are shown (the arrow shows over a gray screen)
-my favourites disappeared
-language locale was reset (i used in Japanese, and was suddenly in English)

So, doing lots of Googling, here I am without a clue on how to solve this. What I have already done are

-Tried to test with both Mac and Windows version of Gamin Express(and the latest!!) --> does not recognize the device at all
-Tested the http://software.garmin.com/ja-JP/gcp.html --> This also does not recognize the device at all
-Changed the cables(although I used the official one) --> does not recognize in both environment
-Found out that in Windows, the Device Manger does not even recognize the Nuvi --> reinstalled the latest USB driver, but still not recognize
-Found a way to change the transfer mode, tested Mass Storage --> Still does not recognize in both environment
-Factory reset --> still does not recognize

When I look into my device right now, I see no selection of maps, no selection of language locale, so it seems that all the essential data has just diappeared. When I do connect the device to PC/Mac, it does start charging, so it seems that USB port is somehow alive.

Anyway, so I am so close to throwing this device out the window, but I just though if there is anything else that I should try, I wanted to give the last shot. And by the way, the Mac Garmin Express had been connected without a flaw few months ago, so I even have a backup. So in theory, I am sure that all the software setup is correct (unless some kind of OSX update effected it)

Please help me!

I am sorry that you are having trouble with your nuvi. Don't worry about USB drivers as the drivers required are built into Windows. The Garmin drivers are for USB devices that do not connect in mass storage/MTP mode.

What do you see on the screen on the nuvi when you plug it in? You should see a picture of a device connected to a computer. It will be gray/white mass storage mode or yellow/orange if it is in MTP mode. If the device is booting up to the navigation screen, the cable is usually at fault. Make sure that you are using a USB data transfer cable and not a USB charging cable (there is usually no way to tell the difference other than the packaging the cable came in). If the cable that you are using has Garmin printed on the end that you plug into the computer, it should be fine unless it got damaged somehow.

Since the issue is happening on both the Mac and the PC, if the cable is not the problem and the master reset did not solve the issue, it would be best to contact support by phone.

    Hi Jason,

    Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, as I mentioned on my initial thread, as neither the Mac/PC recognizes the hardware, nothing will show on the PC/mac.

And yes, I use the Garmin labelled USB cable, so it should be the correct one.

I dont think I would want to spend much more time for this topic, so I suppose I will just throw the device...
