Edge 500 won't sync with Garmin Express

Each time I try to sync, at the half way point, a window pops up. "Re-authentication Required" and it forces me to login to Garmin Connect. At that point the sync stops and Garmin Express shows that the Edge unit has been disconnected (when it has not).

I have removed and reinstalled Garmin Express.

I have removed the Edge and re-added it as a new device.

First noticed this problem after the 4/11/15 Garmin Express update.

Thanks

Typically, the re-authentication required issue is caused by attempting to upload a corrupted activity to Garmin Connect. Try uploading your activities manually:
How do I manually upload data from USB Mass Storage devices to Garmin Connect?

If the file is corrupted, you may find some assistance in other sections of this forum for assistance or you can contact Product Support by phone.

  • Manually uploaded data, cleared our memory on Edge 500, uninstalled and reinstalled device in GE. Now I get a new error message - something along the lines of "unable to sync due to the Garmin servers being busy"

    I'm still looking for answers.

    Thanks

Having the same trouble WEEDENFT. After the update I re-installed GE and can't add my Edge 500 to GE so it can sync automatically..wish I could find the answer to how Garmin's servers are "busy"

There is an issue with the Edge 500 where it creates a corrupted GarminDevice.xml file on the device. When trying to add the device to Garmin Express, if the GarminDevice.xml file is corrupted, Garmin Express will return the server error. The only resolution is to master reset the Edge 500. The reset may have to be done twice before a working file is created on the device.

If the device still fails to add to Garmin Express after resetting, contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.

I do not have a Edge 500 but found some info that might be of help.

    This info came from http://www.bikeforums.net

    1.
I reset my garmin to 0 after every ride before uploading. I also delete all stored activites every few weeks. I haven't lost a single ride while doing this

    2.
I thought I lost a ride once - turned out the file was just corrupted.

This utility repaired it & saved all the data: http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl

Do not know if this will help or not.

What I do not understand is why some many devices get corrupted files.

It does not mater what unit you have.

I find it way to many time users get corrupted files.
