New Version of GE was Terrible

GE autoupdated to the 4.something version and my Edge 205 was unable to sync. This after restarting, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc.

Finally, I reinstalled an old version of GE from here:
http://garmin-express.software.informer.com/download/

Everything is working fine again.

Terrible upgrade...(and I've disabled the auto-update feature on GE)
  • Did you delete then re-add your Edge to Express? That normally solves issues after an update. It's all working fine for me.

That is not the way to correct problems with new update.

Why should a user every time there is an update to GE have to delete and re-add their Garmin device?????

You can clearly read when a user goes back to an older version of GE everything works with out having to delete and re-add their Garmin device......

Garmin Express has big problems and you keep defending it to the max.

And please do not say there are only some user's having problems when you can clearly see there are many user's having problems.

Then to top it off yet another new update Garmin Express v4.0.17.0 for the PC today ?????????.

Hold on everyone you will have to delete ad re-add again........

PS please do not remove things I post here!!!!!!!!
  • Sorry but you're simply wrong. That action does normally resolve many issues.

Yes, some users have issues but there are hundreds of thousands using Express without a problem. There are a very small minority who have issues that the Garmin team try to help. Where an error is found in Express in specific cases changes are made.

I know you have problems and your own views on this and they're welcome, but saying Express has 'big problems' isn't born out by the facts.

    SUSSAMB,

    I quote you:

"but saying Express has 'big problems' isn't born out by the facts."

In less that 2 weeks Garmin has come up with this many versions......

    GarminExpress 4.0.13.0
    GarminExpress 4.0.14.0
    GarminExpress 4.0.15.0
    GarminExpress 4.0.16.0
    GarminExpress 4.0.17.0

So what you are saying is there is no big problem..

All I can say is you keep telling yourself that.......

Had problems with all of the newer updates. The syncing is so slow for my vivofit, whereas it was so fast with the previous version before all the updates. I reinstalled 3.2.29 and it works perfectly again.
  • Well mine isn't working - worst software experience of my life! I can't believe this is happening. How do these clowns get it so wrong? 310xt, Win 8.1 - total useless brick.
  • Also tried a retro install - thanks for the auto update!!! - not working. Just flicks in and out of sync and does nothing.
  • All the 4.x versions break the syncing to Tanita Healthy Edge software. Gone back to 3.x and its working fine.

I've got a feeling I'll be staying on this version forever.
  • I stayed on 3.2.29 for the longest time until yesterday. Somehow, GE automatically upgraded itself 4.0.15 even though I had no reason to do so. Once that version was installed, I then manually upgraded it to 4.0.17.

In fact, it works fine for me although I suspect I'll miss the Sync Now button.

One glitch is that it says there's an update available for my Vivosmart when, in fact, I'm on 3.10 and nobody has mentioned anything about receiving an update to their vs as far as I know. I'm a bit concerned about what will happen when I have to recharge my VS in about 2 days.

I also have an update to my maps for my Nuvi that is available. It will be interesting to see how that goes, but I won't do that this week as I am approaching my ISP's data cap. My cap resets itself in 3 days.

This is typical of Garmin. They like to launch products that are half done. Once I saw the update to GE, I knew I'd have issues. Sure enough, my 910xt isn't recognized. I removed the device and now it won't find it at all. This is just Garmin being Garmin. Frustrating, but they don't care about product quality.
