310XT and latest update of Garmin Express - Can't transfer data anymore

Upgraded my Garmin express yesterday to 4.0.15.0 (I'm using Windows7).
Now it does not recognize my forerunner 310xt (software version 4.50).
Seams that GE will not acknowledge my ant stick tough Ican see it in device manager.
I get a message saying my device is not connected.
I have tried rebooting pc, using different usb port, still does not work

Master reset IS NOT an acceptable answer. I'm geting real tired of all this BS.
  • - Remove device from Garmin Express,
    - Uninstall everything,
    - Reinstall everything,
    - Re-pair device onto Garmin Express,
    - Finally working...
... until Garmin next update ?

Maybe they'll test the next version properly....

Yeah, I know, I know. Hopefully my auto update is disabled now.

Fixed it on mine 310XT found a function in the watch!

    Hi All,
After speaking to a couple of guys at Garmin and getting no where - their best advice "do a hard reset" which would delete all my data which is completely the opposite of what I am trying to do here!!!
any way I did read somewhere that deleting some old files from the watch could help - it didn't but I did find a function in the watch - "transfer all" after hitting this and waiting for a little longer than I would like my rides have come across to Connect and I seem to be working fine again...i'm still waiting to see if they make it all the way to Strava but I really don't mind if they don't!

The function is under History, then press up once or go to the bottom of the list and you'll see "Transfer All" ! I did this and the watch finally found it within itself to send data to Connect - rather than Connect having a look at the watch and finding nothing (I hope that makes sense - I think this is the key, getting the watch to actually choose to send data rather than Connect trying to work out if there is anything new on the watch).

You will see further up this thread that I had already done the complete removal of Garmin on my comp and completely re-installed. For me non of the other fixes worked and to be honest all surmount to "turn it off and on again!" which is just a little hopeful when all else has failed!

If Garmin decide to be as unhelpful again I think a switch to Polar is the answer - from all my research this last few days every one is saying their devices have no issues?? grass may be greener on the other side!?? :)

Good Luck with your own fixes.
  • Uninstalled, reinstalled GE and it's working for me now.

Had a 310 for a long time and I've had to get used to troubleshooting the software.
  • Maybe they'll test the next version properly....
Yeah, I know, I know. Hopefully my auto update is disabled now.

Same here : auto update disabled. That way I can tranfer my last records from my 310XT to GC, and if a hard reset is needed after installation of "updated" software, i won't lose anything.

Solved by using Win7 Restore to go back to older Garmon Express version.

Upgraded my Garmin express yesterday to 4.0.15.0 (I'm using Windows7).
Now it does not recognize my forerunner 310xt (software version 4.50).
Seams that GE will not acknowledge my ant stick tough Ican see it in device manager.

Tried several workarounds listed in the thread, but none did work. In the end I used Win 7 restore point to roll back to the previous Garmin Express version (in my case 3.2.27.0). Everything worked again.

Lessons learned; I disabled all Garmin auto updates and will stick to the oldest version possible.
  • Garmin Express Completely Broken (XT310)

So, GE auto-updates and then won't sync or upload to Garmin Connect properly. This morning I undertook 2 important training sessions (bike & run) that I really wanted to analyse. GE recognised the device, told me it was syncing and then I just get a message "there was a problem uploading to Garmin Connect". No explanation as to why or what to do about it. GE says "synced at 11.24am" but I can find no way of getting GE to try uploading again. I spent the best part of an hour yesterday trying to upload a run, which I eventually got to work but that was clearly just lucky.

This is not acceptable considering the price of these devices so I'd like to know how I can get GE to upload to Garmin Connect the two sessions that I did this morning and what is going to be done about the completely broken software?

Thank you. This worked for me as well. I'm thankful I keep an older version of Garmin Ant Agent on a different computer. I didn't want to wipe out everything before uploading my data, so I used Ant Agent, on a different computer to upload everything. I then did what HIRO_C did and everything worked after re-pairing my 310XT. I had GE configured to auto-update, and have been lucky that previous updates have worked fine. But after this update, the first thing I did after re-installing was to deselect both "Install non-critical GE updates automatically' and auto-update settings.

The computer that had the latest GE is a Dell labptop running Windows 8.1 (with all the latest updates and patches). The computer that has an older version of Ant Agent is a Mac Pro running 10.8.5.
  • Thank you, HIRO_C! This worked for me, too.
I hope Garmin be more careful in the next update.

    GE 4.50 wont connect to m XT310

    Hi

Garmin Express must have updated the last week, since it got a new look. Ever since my XT310 won't sync anymore. GE says "Not connected" even if my ANT stick is connected to the same USB port as always. It has never been any problems since the last update. What wrong with the software? Never had as much problems with other software as I've got with Garmin Express.

Any suggestions? Possible to roll back to the second most recent version since all worked fine back then. Windows 8.1
  • The only way I can get my 310 to sync now is to uninstall then reinstall Garmin Express each time I want to sync. Its not ideal but it works.

As part of the pairing process it pulls all the data from the watch. I have not had to hard reset the watch and lose the data.

Garmin Express in general is a buggy pile of crap and the end users should not be doing the testing for them.
