I am sorry for the troubles. Since your needing this for a race I'll assume your transferring this as a Course. I have tested sending several Activities to a Forerunner 310XT. I tested sending them directly from the Gear icon in the upper right corner of the Activities page. I have also tested saving the activity as a Course then sending the Course to the device from the Courses menu. If your 310XT has been successfully transferring activities up to your account then a Master Reset is probably not needed. Make sure Garmin Express is up to date. Delete the Forerunner 310XT from Express and Connect then adding it back again.

Since you stated that you already did a master reset on the device there shouldn't be any Courses in the Courses menu and the History menu should only have a few activities in it. Please double check the Courses menu on the device and delete any Courses you no longer need. Also check the History menu and delete any old activities that have already been uploaded to Connect.

Some issues stem from the activity itself. Since you have tried Courses that previously worked, create the Course from scratch on the Courses menu then send it to the device. If you continue to have trouble please contact Garmin Support by phone. These types of issues are generally very specific to the local computer and one global set of instructions to fix the issue do not exist. I would be happy to take a look at the activity in question if you will post the link or send it in a PM.

Again I am sorry for the troubles.

  • I believe I'm having a similar issue. I can download activities from my 310xt watch to my computer using Garmin Express. I cannot go in the other direction though. If I create a Workout on Garmin Connect it will not send to my watch. I get an error during the sync process. The error doesn't indicate what the problem is though. This started with the recent update to the Workouts on Garmin Connect. Previously this function was working well. I did a master reset recently when I was having a connection issue and it resolved my other problems.

I think it must be related to the update that was done on Garmin Connect since I was not having an issue before and can send from watch to computer.

Try clearing out any files in the Sync\Download folder for your device in case there is a corrupted file there causing the sync error. Here is the location:

    C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Devices\UnitID\Sync\Download

Note: If the ProgramData folder is not displayed:

    • Click the Tools menu
    • Click Folder Options
    • Click on the View tab
    • Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
    • Click OK

Then try to send the workout from Garmin Connect. If you still receive the error, contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.

  • Unfortunately that did not help. I will call support.

I spent hours yesterday evening trying to upload from my brand new SWIM using Express but to no avail, even when ANT was recognized by my computer (NB USB port 3.0 did not work - I had to use a 2.0 port!) and Express did see the watch. However, I eventually found success doing the following:
Install ANT Agent. Install Garmin Communicator Plug-In. Set Garmin Connect in Classic mode.
Start ANT Agent. It runs minimized - right click the icon (down right on your screen, under hidden icons, and choose 'Open Garmin Agent'). DON'T USE GARMIN EXPRESS!!!
This worked for me, and hopefully for others too :-)

  • Just to say I have the same upload issue with the 310XT.

edit: Yippeeee success. A bit of a PITA but....

    - Master reset of 310XT
    - Remove device from Garmin Express
    - Re-pair device onto Garmin Express.

    Uploads now work!
