Re-authentication required - nothing syncs on FR610

Today GE is trying to sync but halfway stops with the message 'Re-authentication required'. Even after authenticating myself the sync does not complete.
Have restarted the watch and the computer and verified I have the latest GE version.

As I wrote in another thread, I'm troubleshooting GE, GC and my FR610 more than I'm actually exercising...

Of course my watch is out of warranty, otherwise I would claim a new one.

Come on Garmin, why cannot you make anything work correctly?
  • Still not synching with 'new' version

Here's what I find confusing. In the app, it says the version is App is 2.70. You've mentioned that a new version is available; version 4.0.25. I'm ecstatic. I think maybe two major point releases have taken placed since I last updated the app. Maybe all the crappy bugs have been fixed! Maybe the 'You're up to date' message In Garmin Express is just another bug and the ability to update my rides has been just an update away. What an idiot I've been. Never trust the software. I should have learned by now. But unfortunately no, you're talking a version number that correspond to any number I can recognize. What the heck. I'm getting sick of updating my rides manually on Strava. I'll update the app. When I check the actual installer, it suggests the product version is actually 4.1.3.0. I'm just trying to fathom what goes on between 2.70 (what that app says its version is, 4.0.25, the 'fixed' version suggested by Garmin and 4.1.3.0 the version in the properties of the file I've downloaded. So I dowload and install the 'new' version. And the same exact thing happens. The thing that this version was supposed to fix.

What is it that happens? Or doesn't happen? Well, it starts out really well. I've plugged my Edge 800 back in again. The progress bar furiously whizzes across the screen. Then, its slows, you know, like its working really hard. But its still moving. There's hope. Maybe this time it will work. It will get precisely 50% of the way through then stop. And tell me there's a problem with authentication. I must authenticate again. (Why the auth check can't be done a bit sooner in the process is beyond me, but nevertheless).

I finally managed to get my rides updated by installing Garmin Express on a computer that has never previously been exposed to anything Garmin-related. Maybe that's the new market for Garmin products; people who haven't previously used Garmin products.
