Problem with Graphic Driver and Garmin Express.

I installed the new version of GE and this is all you can see when it starts.

See attachment:

As you can see it does not show all of GE.

It will only show one time and then you can not see it any more.

This is the graphic driver I am using.

See attachment:
ATI Radeon Xpress 1150.
It is the latest graphic drive for this Dell Laptop.

Now if I roll back the graphic driver it installs a Basic STD VGA driver.
Then GE will work.
Problem the screen is so big.

But if I reboot my Laptop it automatically installs the correct graphic driver and GE will not work.

Well you can not see it on the screen anymore.

This has been the problem ever since the serious v4.x.x.x came out.

I have uninstalled everything and put v3.2.29.0 which worked with no problems at all.

But now that does not work.
I can only see it if I roll back the graphic drive to the STD one.
But that does not stay when I reboot the laptop.

Something has changed with GE that will screw up the screen and not able to see it anymore while it is running.
  • I had a problem with Basecamp once caused by an incorrect video driver. It had been installed by Toshiba and was incorrect for the installed graphic card, switching to the correct driver solved the issue. What graphics card is installed in your Dell? Are Dell providing the correct driver for that card? I'd try to get it from the graphic card manufacturer rather than via Dell. Since it works with other drivers it appears to be a driver issue rather than an Express issue.

If you read it correctly it was the stander driver that comes with windows that was roll back too.

Not the DELL Graphic driver or the Graphic Card driver from the Manufacturer.

Yes I have the latest Graphic Driver.

No other programs have this problem.

I repeat no one other program has this problem.

I do not have a problem with Mapsource, Basecamp, Mapinstall.
I do not have a problem installing any of Garmin's products.

It is the problem with GE........

As you can see from the first screen shot that only a small part of GE is showing.
You can not see the whole program.
If I click on the task bar icon it removes GE never to be seen on the Screen again.
Even if you click on it 100 times.....

I have spent a lot of time testing this.

But the stander answer is that it is not Garmin Express fault.

Oh no it is never the fault of Garmin..........

That is why Garmin has come up with so many version of 4.x.x.x.

Because it is not Garmin's fault.

I am just getting a little frustrated with the same old answers over and over again.

Just like when other use's have problems with the Garmin Server.

    NO problem with the server.

But when you check the status of the server there sure are problems.

Garmin needs to be more transparent to the user's.

If a user has a problem then Garmin should respond to that problem.

The bottom line here is Garmin knows they have problems with GE.

So do not keep saying it is the user's fault.......
  • Yes I read your post. You've missed the point I was making, check on the manufacturers website that you have the correct driver for the graphics card installed on your PC. It may not be the issue but then I didn't expect Basecamp to fail due to an incorrect driver either, and like you everything else worked.

While it's also true that some users have issues with GE the vast majority do not. Tracking down what makes these users different from others isn't easy, but the Garmin Express team here do do all they can to help, but they equally need those users having issues to help them diagnose the specific problem.

First of all what do you think I have done??

That was the first thing I did to see if there was another grapgic Driver.

    There is not!!!

But this is the thinking of Garmin.

Treat users like they do not know anything.

Then it boils down to Garmin's thinking if you want to use Garmin Express you have to change things on your Laptop or PC.

Sorry it is the other way around.

Garmin Express has to work on every Laptop and PC with out having to make any changes to his or her Laptop or PC.

Why should a user have try to change his or her Laptop or PC setting just to make Garmin Express work????

When the Laptop or PC is working fine with all othere programs.

I read all the posts here and there are a lot of users that are not very happy.

It is time Garmin gets there act together or they will lose more market share.

Just like the half attempt to make Garmin víago app for Android

This app is no longer available for purchase/download.

Then Garmin StreetPilot for Android nothing.

So Garmin went and got Navigon because they could not come up with a good Android app.

I fear that Garmin will go the way of Nokia and many other companies unless they get their act together.

Garmin Express has to work every time all the time for every user be it for the Nuvi GPS units or
    Watches / Wearable Technology.

    But sadly it does not.

Well OK, but as I'm not peering over your shoulder I have no idea what you have/have not tried and since I'd had an issue with a Garmin program that initially I'd blamed (mistakenly) on a problem with Basecamp I thought it was at least worth suggesting it. Remotely diagnosing faults requires a bit of patience :)

I have no other idea what the problem could be so you'll need to wait for the Express team to comment or contact Product Support or hope someone else has an idea.

I read all the posts here and there are a lot of users that are not very happy.

Naturally, it's only generally unhappy users that complain, but there are millions out there successfully using Express ... where there are issues identifying what makes those relatively small number of users different from the millions that don't have issues isn't always simple.
