Garmin Express 4.0.13 not Posting Activities to Garmin Connect

Hello Garmin,
It appears that I am having the same issue as many of your users. I thought that I would post my experience in the hope that it will help you diagnose the problem.

Windows 8.1
Garmin 310XT, Software 4.50

After having the issue that my 310XT syncs with GE - but the activities do not show up in Garmin Connect I completely uninstalled Garmin Express and went through the following steps.

Step 1: Installed Garmin Express 3.2.29
* Uninstall current version of GE
* Restart computer
* Install GE 3.2.29
* Restart computer
* 310XT syncs with Garmin Express (3.2.29)
* Activities show up in Garmin Connect
* Delete All History on 310XT (in case one of the activities was corrupt)

Step 2: Update Garmin Express to 4.0.13
* Update GE version using program updater
* Restart computer
* Create a dummy activity
* 310XT syncs with Garmin Express (4.0.13)
* Dummy activity does not show up in Garmin Connect
* Follow the following instructions
  • Quit Garmin Express
  • Press the Windows Key + R
  • Type %programdata%
  • Click OK
  • Open the Garmin folder
  • Open the CoreService folder
  • Open the Devices folder
  • Open the Unit ID folder of your device
  • Delete the Sync folder [note: only thing in this folder was CompletedUploadsV2.xml]


* Delete All History on 310XT (in case one of the activities was corrupt)
* Create a dummy activity
* 310XT syncs with Garmin Express (4.0.13)
* Dummy activity does not show up in Garmin Connect

Step 3: Uninstall Garmin Express (4.0.13) - Reinstall GE 3.2.29
* Uninstall Garmin Express 4.0.13
* Restart computer
* Install GE 3.2.29
* Restart computer
* Create a dummy activity
* 310XT syncs with Garmin Express (3.2.29)
* Dummy activity shows up in Garmin Connect
* Delete All History on 310XT (in case one of the activities was corrupt)

Step 4: Uninstall Garmin Express (3.2.29) - Reinstall GE 4.0.13
* Uninstall Garmin Express 3.2.29
* Restart computer
* Install GE 4.0.13
* Restart computer
* Create a dummy activity
* 310XT syncs with Garmin Express (4.0.13)
* Dummy activity does not show up in Garmin Connect
* Delete All History on 310XT (in case one of the activities was corrupt)

I have tried to be thorough and systematic in this process. In my case at least, I don't think that the problem lies with the Sync folder. Every time that I have checked this folder it only contains the "CompletedUploadsV2.xml" file. According to what has been written on this forum, the fact that this folder is empty after a sync event means that the activities have been sent to Garmin Connect and Express deletes the activity files.

When I look at my device in Garmin Connect, it will show the last Sync event that correlates with the last sync with version 3.2.29. When I have a subsequent sync in version 4.0.13, it is not recognized in Connect.

I would like to be part of the solution. If there is a trial that you would like for me attempt, please let me know. You also have my permission to look into my Garmin Connect account to see if you can find something there.

    I am sorry that you are having trouble syncing your Forerunner. I am not sure what might be happening during this process to cause this but it is possible that the new dummy activity is getting marked as sent during the pairing process before it is actually synced. Have you tried force sending the activity when you see that it doesn't show up on Garmin Connect? To force send all activities:
    • Press MODE (to get to Main Menu)
    • Select History
    • Select Transfer All

    I think it's pretty obvious to everyone that the problems with the 310XT not sync'ing data to Connect is a issue with Express, mainly version 4.0.13. Continuing to go back in forth trying to the same things are a waste of time. Time that could be used fixing the issue. But I have a suspicion that there will never be a fix and that support for the 310XT in Express will go away. I also suspect that most of Garmin's software support is being aimed at the activity trackers since that's the new (and bigger) market currently.

    And it is did you try this or that as an answer.

    It should work out of the box.
    Not every time a new GE update comes out someone else has a problem that they did not have before.

    OK, I found a copy of 3.1.7.0 and installed it, it upgraded itself to 3.2.27.0 and my VF uploaded fine, looks like yet another successful software update by Garmin, Not!!

    Hello Jason,
    Last night I logged into my computer (Windows 8.1) to try what you have suggested. I could not connect my 310XT to GE - It kept giving me an error saying that my Ant Stick was not connected. I have the Mini Ant+ USB that came with my watch. I tried every USB port. I am using the ports directly into the computer - not a USB hub. There are 3 USB ports on my computer. Every one works with my USB mouse - but none recognize the Ant Stick. I opened up Device Manager and see the following:

    Device Status
    Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)
    To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer. [I'm staring right now at my Ant Stick that is plugged into my computer]

    Driver Date: 4/11/2012
    Driver Version: 1.2.40.201

    I've tried to update the driver, but it tells me that I have the most recent version.

    I have uninstalled and reinstalled GE. Restarted my computer numerous times.

    I'm trying to stay positive - but this is getting pretty exasperating. I'm going to take the Ant stick up to my work computer to see if it works there or if there is some issue with the Ant stick.

    where did you find 3.1.7.0. i'm going to give this a try.

    It turns out that I have a faulty Ant Stick. I borrowed a friends Ant Stick and tried what you had requested.

    * Press MODE (to get to Main Menu)
    * Select History
    * Select Transfer All

    I had a bike ride from yesterday. Garmin Express syncs with the watch. I can tell by the length of time that it takes to transfer the data that my bike ride is being transferred. When I am only transferring a dummy activity it takes just a few seconds. After the sync is complete the activity does not show up in my Garmin Connect account. Furthermore I get the following disconnects between Express and Connect on when the last Sync activity occurred.

    Garmin Express: Synced Today [March 28] @ 6:03am
    Garmin Connect: Synced Mar 27, 2015 @ 6:49 PM [note: this was when I synced with GE 3.2.29]

    Looking forward to a solution.
  • Hello Jason,
    I de-installed GE 4.0.13 and re-installed GE 3.2.29. My 310XT synced and my bike ride from yesterday now shows up in Garmin Connect. The Sync logs between GE and GC now match.

    Garmin Express [3.2.29]: Last synced 6:28 AM Saturday March 28,2015
    Garmin Connect: Synced Today [March 28] @ 6:28 AM

    BTW, what do I need to do to get a new ANT Mini USB stick? I purchased my 310XT on Feb 23, 2015.
