Garmin Express: There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect

I use a Forerunner 610, and run Garmin Express on a Windows 8.1 laptop. Everything was working ok until 2 weeks ago, and now every attempt I make to synchronise, the watch transfers data, and about halfway through in terms of the pc progress bar (the watch progress bar is complete) I get asked to re-authenticate (it accepts the user and password) and then gives me the same error message: "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect"

I have worked around this a couple of times by uploading to my old laptop, with uses ANT Agent (no Garmin Express) to upload direct to Garmin Connect, but I don't have access to that laptop now, and shouldn't need to rely on it.

I have deleted all old activities off the Forerunner, and still the same error - just trying to upload today's run. I tried to find fit files on my pc to manually upload, but they don't seem to come across in the same way as with ANT?

Please can someone help me?

Thanks F-lu, that's a great workaround. So those files are fit files, just without the extension.

It would be useful to get a more automated fix for this from Garmin

I am sorry that you are having trouble syncing in Garmin Express. We currently have a case open for this but it appears to be caused (at least in some cases) by corrupt files on the computer. Once you have followed the instructions in that post to manually upload the files, try deleting the Sync folder (C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Devices\[UnitID]\Sync). This should allow future syncs to complete successfully.

Thanks Jason, that seems to have sorted it - synced first time after deleting the folder
