I'm not sure about any updates you are referring to. Most of the sync issues with the 310XT and 910XT and Garmin Express involve the activity files being created on the computer but for some reason not being uploaded into Garmin Connect. The instructions in the post https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?224638-Garmin-Express-can-t-sync-again&p=576827#post576827 explain how to manually upload the activities to your Garmin Connect and resend any activities that are in the History folder on the watch. Please let us know if you have questions about the process or contact Garmin Product Support by phone.

I am having the same issue, and I've debugged it a bit. The issue is very clearly with the Garmin connect API.

I have an edge 500 and when I try to add it as a device to Garmin Express, after having removed it previously. The device does not show up in Garmin Connect.

I always get the servers unavailable notice, which has been happening for about 3 months. When I debugged the HTTP traffic , I can see that the issue is because I am getting a 404 response from http://connectapi.garmin.com/device-service/deviceregistration/device/support/. The request made to this URL is passing an oAuth header, which is a little odd because I dont log into Garmin Express.

There are a couple of possibilities that I can imagine:

    1) Garmin Connect has an incorrect URL, and the communication for registration is simply broken.
    2) The oAuth headers are cached and/or pulled from internet explorer. You are logging into my account on Garmin Connect, and you are returning a 404 because of some unexpected error on the server, possibly related to my having removed my Edge 500 from Garmin Express. If this is the case, your API is broken in two ways : first it should not just choke because of some unexpected (but perfectly testable and should be expected behavior), second it should return a 500 and not a 404. I don't think this is the case because I created a new account on Garmin Connect and made sure that I was logged into it and got the same error.

Either way, your API is broken, and the logs that people have been sending you (on this forum, in the archives and via the "send logs" from Garmin Express) should have told you how and why they are broken.

It is inexcusable for a company to release a product that fails this badly.

So, I've fixed the problem, but it does not change my assessment of the tool.

I factory reset my Edge 500 which removed my user data and then allowed me to add my device to Garmin Connect.

What I think this means is that user credentials, or garmin connect information, or a token of some sort is stored on the garmin, and that if you remove the device from express you need to reset the user data, or it thinks it can communicate with the Garmin Connect API, but it cannot because that device has been removed from my Garmin Connect account. The error returned (the 404) remains a complete red herring, and the overall setup is awful.

You need to fix this, and/or give much clearer directions to people who have these types of issues.

I tried a factory reset on my 510 (which didn't have very much data on it anyway, being less than a day old), didn't help. This may take a minute...-screen persists quite a lot longer than a minute and never gets anywhere (it's hidden behind the There was a problem connecting to the Garmin servers-window though).

As I'm trying to add the unit, there doesn't appear to be any way around using the Garmin Express software which refuses to connect.

Norrskenet, and the rest of you.....

I do not have these devices but found some info that might be of help.

    This info came from http://www.bikeforums.net

    1.
I reset my garmin to 0 after every ride before uploading. I also delete all stored activites every few weeks. I haven't lost a single ride while doing this

    2.
I thought I lost a ride once - turned out the file was just corrupted.

This utility repaired it & saved all the data: http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl

Do not know if this will help or not.

What I do not understand is why some many devices get corrupted files.

It does not mater what unit you have.

I find it way to many time users get corrupted files.

Hi RonB624 (and any Garmin support staff reading)

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I don't know if this is a coincidence or the code technicians have fixed something; but I managed to loan another computer and what do you know? The thing connected (yay!). After this (and after updating the software on the unit), it also works on the first computer I tried it on.

Hope everyone else can solve their problems.

    Curt,
My 310XT has synced because I deleted & reloaded the software & did a master reset once again. I should not have to do this everytime I wish to upload new data.
I sent a email to Garmin support a couple of days ago, perhaps they might reply??

I tried to upload data yesterday & today with no success.

Basically all I want is for my device to sync. Is this too much to ask???????????????

I once again spoke to Garmin support & the guy was very helpful. I sent my device back last Saturday & received a new replacement device this morning.
I have checked it out and it sync's with no problem :)
    Thank you very much.
  • Viofit has failed to sync since the 27th. Edge 1000 has failed to sync since the 29th. Connect will accept manual upload of .FIT files. This does not help when attempting to load data from a scale. I'm using Express 4.0.21.0, reported to be the most current version.
Testing within the Garmin IT environment is not a valid test. Your test scenario should include what your customer base is using, outside the Garmin firewall. Go home and try it from there.
If it were only one Garmin product that was having problems it might be a problem with the user. Too many products are showing a lack of Alpha and Beta testing, prior product release. Garmin Vector comes to mind.
The user community is not the Garmin test community.

From my experience few odd and seemingly unrelated things seem to affect the syncing:
    * Corrupted event recording
    * Mismatch of watch firmware vs PC software
    * Too full/fragmented recordings on the watch

I have posted few remedies at :

    Good luck!
