Hi - yesterday I updated the maps on my BMW Nav 5 to the new European map. Once again, the install went fine but I ended up with another full set of .sid files on the Garmin drive and the previous set still in place consuming more than a GB of space. Once again, I deleted the older set of files - they are date-stamped as per the map update date - and all seems well. My question is exactly what are these files for and why do they not get overwritten with each new map upload. It seems to me that they may well be the reason why people see their drive space eaten away after a a few updates and have to use a SD card. Any thoughts - they could be search data or traffic trends?
Hi - the reason I found these files was after being forced to use my SD card for the Oct 14 update - the 4 older files I eventually deleted consumed more than 1GB of space - on this update, no use of SD card but files not cleared off again?
