Garmin Express sync 'working' - but activities not uploading to Garmin Connect

Former Member
Former Member
I have a Garmin 410 which i've successfully used with Garmin Express for some time. My last activity upload was on Friday 13th March. Since then i've tried to upload two further activities and despite Garmin Express stating that the transfer was complete, when I login to Garmin Connect the activities are not there. Scouring Google for answers hasn't helped me either. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Garmin Express - to no avail.

Has anyone got any ideas of how I can get it to work? Or am I missing something obvious that I should be doing?

Thanks

Anyone suddenly having issues with new activities not showing up in Connect after a successful sync in Express, make sure Garmin Express is up to date then please use the FAQ and instructions below to locate any files that have not uploaded to Connect and try to manually upload them.

Where do my activities go on the computer before they are uploaded to Garmin Connect?

All files in this location from a 310XT, 610XT, or 910XT should be .FIT files and have the .FIT extension. Add the .FIT extension if needed. Move any files to the Desktop or another folder then manually uploaded to Connect. If Connect refuses to import the file then it is corrupt and can be deleted. To recreate the files, use the Transfer All option on the watch. This will prompt the watch to send all activities to Express again . Hopefully the file for the missing activity will be valid with this second attempt and upload to Connect. Only activities not already in Connect will upload. If a missing activity fails to upload a second time it should be deleted from the device. Along with the corrupt activity, delete any activity on the device older than 30 days to as a preventative maintenance step.

To manually upload activities to Garmin Connect:

    • Sign into Garmin Connect
    • Click sidebar menu (three lines icon)
    • Click Activities
    • Click Import
    • Click Choose file

Please let us know if you have any success or contact Garmin Product Support by phone.

Again, I am sorry for the troubles.

Manual upload works. Those files lacks EXTENSIONS when they come from watch to computer.

It worked this way manually. I had to rename the file (added .gpx to the end), those files (any of them) didn't have any extension. Just name made of numbers. Did we find the problem?
Watch sends data to computer without extensions so Garmin Express doesn't recognize them so it won't send them forward to Garmin Connect?

But there is that authentication error too. I don't know, I'm praying for solution here. :(

Connect doesn't accept any file without .tcx, .gpx or .fit at end.

I have FR 610. Also I left my info to my country's customer support last night.

Been a 910xt "customer" for yrs (as well as ancient 405 "days") ANT was "fine," usually; Express was good/great once early snafus were overcome. Boy do I miss those easy automatic downloads!!!!
Why??? Because it seems someone(s) "hacked/jacked" their way into bugging Garmin website/software/"whatevers" and messing up a good/great thing.
I contacted support after trying all their ideas for solutions. They sent me an email saying basically, "send us your watch....we'll get it back to ya in 10 or so days." Really? REALLY? Send my trusty $300 "personal trainer" and pray it returns to me? unharmed? unscathed? un.......(ok, I'm having too much literary fun here....)???

Tri-guys have to have their Garmin "Fix" every 1-3days MAX (don't ya know)!!!! Then I try it one last time earlier today with old 3.0 version and hey hey....get the activities to "play" for a day....it seems. But Just now I finished a 10k tonite and now it won't upload. Sheeesh.....its not my trusty watch guys. Its your "end." (software, etc) And the 4.0 interface doesn't even seem all that user friendly either; what's up with that??? Hope Garmin isn't working their techs "short" like everyone else. (hint hint) My venting is up......!

Forget that newest version, install 3.2.29.0, I did today the same and now it works. Yes, problem is not in our end.

Uninstall EVERYTHING related to garmin, boot and install 3.2.29.0 version of garmin express. At least that solved my problem.
And turn autoupdates off until you can read about working new version of Garmin Express on forums.

Where do you get version 3.29.2.0?

    Sorry I meant 3.2.29.0

I got mine from this address: http://download.garmin.com/omt/express/GarminExpress.exe

It may offer you newest version, but for some it offers old too. There is other sites too where you can download that older version. Like this http://www.onlinedown.com/detail/453686.htm (I haven't tried this, just googled)

I checked my files and seems that GarminExpress.exe is 3.2.29.0 and GarminExpressInstaller.exe is 4.0.11.0
  • Where do you get version 3.29.2.0?

    I think he meant 3.2.29

You can google and find many download sites for it but try to find a reliable site where the program isn't likely to have malware.
  • I am sorry that you all are having this trouble with Express. We have a case open for this but it appears that the issue is caused by a corrupt FIT file that is stored on the computer. The reason that switching to 3.2.29 is solving the problem is because files are stored in a different location on that version and the corrupt file is most likely deleted as well. To resolve this issue:
    • Quit Garmin Express
    • Press the Windows Key + R
    • Type %programdata%
    • Click OK
    • Open the Garmin folder
    • Open the CoreService folder
    • Open the Devices folder
    • Open the Unit ID folder of your device
    • Delete the Sync folder

If you are missing activities, you can try force sending the activities but if the activity is corrupt on the watch, you may have the same problem again and have to delete the files from the computer.

  • Just followed these instructions. I deleted the sync folder. But I'm not sure how to proceed. Garmin express says i sync'd an hour ago and won't sync again and i can't force it. there is no 'sync' button on 4.5

    thanks.

Deleting the sync folder did nothing for me, and I have a vivofit 2 (which I bought 2 weeks ago) and have only been able to sync the data once. Rather annoyed.

EDIT: Going back to version 3.2.29.0 didn't work for me either.

Garmin Express will not sync again unless there is new data to sync. You can either create a test activity or force send your activities if there are some missing from Connect.

    Toastcrumbs
Your issue is a little different as these issues would not apply to your vivofit 2. It looks like your vivofit 2 has been removed from your Garmin Connect account. I am not sure if this was done intentionally during troubleshooting the problem or not but the first step would be to get your device added back to connect using Garmin Express. If your device is still displaying in Garmin Express, you will need to remove the device from Express first.

If you are still having trouble, please give details about the issue that you are experiencing including any error messages you might be receiving.

Tried this Jason and still did not work.. Watch syncing to Express and showing as complete, but activity not showing on Connect... Any other suggestions?????

I have the 310xt and only had it a week and it's never uploaded to Garmin Connect... All other Garmins have been fine it just appears to be the software on this one.

Beginning to wish I'd gone with the Suunto....
