v4.0.6 Still issues with Vehicles and Voices

The issue with Vehicles and Voices continues. While v4.0.6 like previous versions will still update my maps clicking on Vehicles and Voices gets the error message 'We're having trouble communicating with our servers'.
  • Thanks for looking into it Lisa. I look forward to the follow-up on this.

    @STUARTMW

Do you use map updater for new device series 2014, or for old device like nuvi 1490?
Garmin Express was released December 2012.
26 Months is still a long time and they still didn't make GE to work properly.

Look here how many people have problem with GE, release after release more and more error all the time: http://goo.gl/Pxnqez
I think if your car will have so many problem all the time you will already sell it or send it to auto junkyard.

    p.s.
I still didn't get answer if Garmin Express Team test tool before they release new version or they just release it and whait for user to tell what don't work.

Shouldn't matter if you put your device into mass storage mode vs MTP (the default for newer nuvi's).

True but GE isn't going to go away. Garmin has invested too much time, effort and money in it. It got it's own PC and Mac forums here while many other products didn't. That should give a clue as to it's importance to Garmin.

Question: How would people call a program that has been updated 71 (seventy one) times in the last 26 months and still has bugs?
Answer: Beta program (if they are polite)

Question: How would people call the customers of a company that "forces" them to use such a program?
Answer: Forced Beta Testers (if they are polite)

Question: How should Garmin thank all those expert users and moderators in various regional and global forums about Garmin, who have helped numerous Garmin customers to fix and restore their devices after using GE, instead of sending them back, demanding a new one?
Answer: No need to do anything, we do it for free and because we love Garmin, but PLEASE fix GE before version ....99.99.99, PLEASE !!!

If all those messed up and bricked Garmins by GE were returned to the factory, then maybe Garmin would have consider not to spend so much time, effort and money to a program that supports all the devices, old and new, on all PCs with win7, win8, win8.1, win10......

Selecting Vehicles and Voices in Garmin Express 4.0.7 just worked for me; first time that's happened with 4.x. For kicks and grins I plugged my 3597 in again and the first time I selected Vehicles and Voices I got the sync error, but the 2nd time and afterwards it has worked every time.

UPDATE: Interesting, I just tried again and now I'm getting the sync error no matter how many times I retry!

    +1

    Superb writen and true post.

I'd call it progress. Express is far more capable than it first was and for the vast majority works. Sometimes there are issues, but mainly the problems are at the user end.

Question: How would people call the customers of a company that "forces" them to use such a program? ......

No one is 'forcing you' to use Express if you don't want to, you have a free choice not to use it. Many don't

Very few devices are 'bricked' as you put it. Folks managed to 'brick' devices using MapUpdater, and some couldn't use that either. Bear in mind Express doesn't simply update maps, it does far more than MapUpdater ever did and Express was partly introduced since consumers got confused by the myriad of programs and wanted a 'one stop shop'.

The latest version of Garmin Express (v4.0.8.0) seems to have fixed this issue, at least for me. It worked last night after I installed it and again this morning. Thanks Garmin Team!
  • Appears to be fixed for me as well ... Thanks Garmin!
