Cannot update maps on new Nuvi

I purchased a new Nuvi 2699LMThd and have spent the past two days trying to update the maps. Express indicates that updates are available and it starts downloading but only gets to about 35% and then gives me an error message and says to contact Garmin. I have sent them a contact message but no reply as of yet.

The same thing happened when I tried to save the updated maps to both the device and my computer only the computer got to about 65% completed before quitting and giving me the same error message. I have tried re-booting my computer, re-installing Express, and just about everything else I can think of. I have tried the download for the past two days - about 20 times - with the same results each time. It did update my software version without any problem (6.30).

Does this sound like a problem on my end ( cable internet, computer ) or is it a problem with Garmin's download site?

  • This can occur when there isn't enough space on the nuvi for the update to take place. You could try deleting unnecessary voice, vehicle, keyboard, text, EULA and help files to see if the update will then go ahead.

    I am sorry for the troubles. There weren't any server problems effecting map update downloads this weekend. Please see the suggestions in the FAQ: What should I do if I am having problems downloading updates in Garmin Express? Also, I wouldn't concern myself with the free space on the 2699 since it was brand new but you might check the hard drive on your computer and make sure it meets the minimum free space requirements of 13GB.
