Forerunner 15 will not sync with GC

As you can see from the attachment, my Forerunner 15 will not sync with GC. I have been away from home for three weeks and upon my return, I found that there is a new version of GE (currently I'm running 4.0.5.0). I updated and tried to sync but was unsuccessful. In debugging the issue, I have completely uninstalled GE and hard reset my device and the sync problem continues. I'm currently located in Kazakhstan and have tried to sync with and without VPN (New York server) enabled, both fail.

Prior to vacation, I was unable to sync data properly and submitted a forum thread [1] regarding that issue. One of the comments was that Garmin confirmed it to be a Garmin issue, not client. Does anyone have a working configuration with a Forerunner and GC via GE? I sync once per day and can manually upload activities, but I'm not sure if I can do the same with the wellness data. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am sorry for the troubles. I suggest you do the software update on the Forerunner that came out the 24th, version 2.50. Have you tried installing Express on a different computer just to rule out a problem with the way your computer is configured. Since you are over seas all we can do is make sure the watch is free of any corrupt data which a Master Reset will do, make sure it is up to date, and try syncing from a couple different computers / w different internet connections. I noticed some step data was logged for today so I'm wondering what type of setup you were using then. This issue is not effecting every Forerunner 15 so hopefully you can find a setup in your situation that will successfully sync your wellness data.

Again I am sorry for the troubles. Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Curt,

Thanks for the quick response. I updated the Forerunner software last night to the latest and have confirmed that it is still running 2.50 after the hard reset. Despite the error message I received last night (same as attached to first post), GE synced my steps for yesterday. However, I had 7 days worth of steps and only yesterday synced last night. Furthermore, it continued to give a sync error while it was clearly syncing some data. Today I tried syncing and it did sync my steps for today but still gave an error message. My wellness data from last night did not sync today, which precipitated the uninstall and resets. I suppose it's possible that data syncing is now working. I'll know once I go a night of sleep. However, the error messages that I continuously receive do not inspire confidence. I'm not willing to continue to use the software if it "works" while still displaying error messages. I'll post another response tomorrow with the results. My wife has the same watch and I'll see if her watch syncs correctly.
  • Here is today's status update. The red error message bar that reads, "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect." continues. I have not had a successful sync since trying to diagnose this problem. With that said, some things are syncing properly. New Activities are syncing correctly with all the data. My Sleep data from last night also synced correctly. Unfortunately, NO Steps data synced today. I received a response from Garmin Europe Support yesterday with this information:

We have found that currently the Forerunner 15 will only sync step data from the current day. If you sync your data less frequently what will likely happen is the step data for any previous day besides the day that you sync will not upload to Garmin Connect.

This issue has been reported and is being addressed with high priority, until this time the work around at is to sync your device daily.

I'm happy to hear that this issue appears to be on Garmin's side and not mine. Although today NO Steps data synced, suggesting that I still have some issue with my setup. Unfortunately, this problem has existed since January and is still not fixed. I can't wait to hear that this issue has been resolved, but I'm starting to look for another product to replace the Forerunner 15 from another company.

I have just bought a Forerunner 15 and am having similar issues. Would like to see this issue resolved as I am generally happy with the functioning of the product but, without the sync working properly I am getting very frustrated as I now have my Garmin Connect acc link to MyFitnessPal, and I need to correlate the data properly.

So I've worked out how to manually update my activity monitor data though the classic dashboard, which is helpful but, far from perfect.

I'm no master programmer or anything but, the way I see it GE essentially just has to read files from two folders and, upload them to the server. Now, if it's managing to do that with one folder, the Activity folder, then why can't/isn't doing exactly the same from the other, the Monitor, folder?

I may be looking at this in incredibly simplistic terms but, surely this can't be that difficult to work out... is it!?

I'm having the same problems with my FR15. Just to let you know, while I'm getting the very same error messages since I updated both my FR15 to 2.50 & GExpress to 4.0.5.0, over the last 3 days I've been syncing 3 or 4 times over the space of a few hours until all the data shows up. It's really annoying, but does seem to work eventually. I wish I hadn't updated. Things were finally working after last month's issues....

Same issue with FR 405. Garmin hardware is great. Software is very disappointing. please test your software before putting it into production?
  • All,

The original issue is different than the 405 and the 620. For you guys, please contact support if you are having issues after following the steps in the link below:
What should I do if I'm having issues with the Garmin Express client?

I found the 3.2.29 GExpress link via Google but you can PM me for it if you can't figure it out. Just Google "Garmin express 3.2.29.0 download." I got 3.2.29 installed tonight, after a complete uninstall of 4.0.5.0 including data, & my sync with the FR15 & then to GConnect worked flawlessly!! I cannot tell you how happy I am. I even got that amazing sync button back!! **happy dance!!**
