I posted this previously but it was locked and closed by Curt without any answer given.
MapUpdater is running fine on this PC but is not giving me the option to download the latest map to my computer. Please read my original post properly and advise.


"Once again I am having problems with the latest map update for my Zumo and Nuvi devices.

I have been able to update the GPS devices but I am unable to update Basecamp on my computer.

When I try to update the computer with Garmin Express V3.2.28.0 I get an error message "Garmin Elevated Installer has encountered an Error and needs to close" the map software continues to download but gets stuck in "Configuring" stage. I left it running all night but was still in "Configuring" phase this morning.

I tried to update Garmin Express to the latest version 4.0.2.0 and a window appears to advise my OS (XP Sp3) is not compatible with the latest version and directs me to use MapUpdater V3.3.4. When I run this program I get a window with "A Map is Available to Purchase" or "Exit" options only. If I choose the "A Map is Available to Purchase" it takes me to the Garmin Shop.
As I have Lifetime Maps on both my devices I do not need to purchase maps".

How can I update Basecamp to the latest map version?

    Well Curt did give you an answer and said if you continue to have problems to contact Product Support. If you're having to use MapUpdater look at the first few screens, at some point there is a line that says 'I would like to enter a product key'. Click on that, enter the product key and all should be good.

    If it's still not working then follow Curt's advice and call Product Support.

    Where do i find this "Product Key" Is it for my device or the map i wish to download for basecamp?

    It's for the map, you'll find it when you log onto myGarmin and look under the myMaps tab. If you continue to have problems call Product Support.

    When I look in MyGarmin under myMaps all of my downloaded maps are listed with a 8 character Code (S2R7???? for the current map) and a 25 character Unlock Code. Neither of these codes or combination of these codes are recognised by Map Updater as a valid product key

    Then do as suggested and call Product Support.

    From reading other threads it would seem that because GE loaded my GPS units with the current map but failed to load my computer for Basecamp i no longer have the option to reload my GPS units or download to the computer.
    I have contacted Product Support and had no response other than to load from MapUpdater which as i explained earlier no longer gives me the option to reload my GPS units or download to the computer

    Well it didn't fail to, it just wasn't selected. However all is not lost. Create a clone of your device and run Express, then select to install to your PC.

I am running XP and i was only able to download the previous map update to the computer using Mapupdater V3.3.3 which gave me the options of reloading Device, Device & Computer or Computer. The new version of Mapupdater only gives me the options of purchasing a map or entering a Product Key that i am unable to locate in MyGarmin or MyMaps

    Sorry for the troubles. You have some Windows XP Microsoft .NET issues that are interfering with the Elevated Installer. I suggest you repair your .NET Framework or contact Microsoft to get that straightened out. Once that is straightened out you can use the reinstall option in Express 3.2.8 to install the maps to the computer. Unfortunately other than switching to a modern computer that is our only option.     Again I am sorry for the troubles. BaseCamp can read mapping from the device when it is connected so I suggest you take advantage of that if repairing the .NET does not correct the problem.

    I have updated the Microsoft .Net Framework with all updates uncluding the optional ones on the Microsoft Download site and run the repair tool with no errors showing in .Net Framework
    I still get an error message "Garmin Elevated Installer has encountered an Error and needs to close" when trying to download the map to my computer only with Garmin Express V3.2.28.0.

    The .NET theory still does not explain why MapUpdater wants me to pay for the update when i have Lifetime Maps
