800 starts up when connecting to the computer via USB - can't upload data or charge.

So I go to upload my data by plugging my 800 into the PC via the USB cable and all the device wants to do is start up and start searching for satellites. Nothing is able to be uploaded and it does not show as charging. Turning the 800 off just disconnects it from the PC. Tried restarting the PC with and without the 800 plugged in and keep on getting the same problem!

Any ideas on how to get it to connect my 800 and upload data without the 800 turning on???

The 800 you are referring to is an Edge 800 correct? This device is a mass storage mode device. This means the device should mount as a portable drive on your computer without doing anything. When a portable device like the Edge or say a thumb drive gets plugged into the computer Windows installs it's own built in drivers. Since the device is going directly into its operating menu instead of the USB mass storage mode the device is not connecting correctly.
