Garmin Express Does Not Launch Under User Account?

Former Member
Former Member
I installed Garmin Express v3.2.29.0 on a Windows 7 x64 computer using an account with admin rights.

Garmin Express will launch fine and everything works, when I launch the program from the account with admin rights.

Now, if I switch to an account with user rights and launch Garmin Express (remember Garmin Express installs for all users), the small "Garmin Express" rectangular logo screen appears, remains on, and the main Garmin Express window never displays. If I hover the mouse pointer over the logo screen, it changes from a pointer shape to a rotating circle. Another words the program hangs and I have to use the Windows Task Manager to kill the program.

Can you please fix this?

Obviously Garmin Express installs for all users and therefore should launch correctly regardless of which user runs it. I did notice that the Garmin Express tray icon only appears in the tray under the account with admin rights, if this helps.

thanks,

  • rogps,

Garmin Express is designed to run on an administrator account on the computer. We usually see these types of issues when running the program under a standard user account.

Are you able to run the program on a standard user account if you right click on the application and select "Run as Administrator"? This should allow the program to run with increased privileges in order to perform the functions required for updates.

    Ryan,

I am also not able to run the program, on a standard user account, if I right-click on the application and select "Run as Administrator". It gives me the same problem as described in my original post.

If Garmin Express will not run correctly in a standard user account, why doesn't the installer install the program for a single user only within an admin account?
