Garmin Express NOT SYNCING edge 800 to Connect (again)

I had this set up working finally then a few days ago it just stopped syncing...nothing changed my end...edge unit is fine, usb cable is fine, usb port is fine, but the garmin software isnt fine.
Express doesnt allow the sync icon to be selected, so i cant even upload/download activities manually any more. Garmin support said its a fault in thier software then told me to send in the garmin edge 800 for replacement!??? huh?? I cant just send the unit back as Im in a country with no reliable mail service, besides how will me sending my unit back fix thier software issue? I re installed garmin express as support told me to do that , apparenty its some kind of update that went wrong, but it still doesnt work.

I heard on other forums that other users are having similar issues right now....is this a familier story on here too?

Has anybody found a workaround while we wait for the almighty Garmin to get their finger out?
