i have a small laptop with windows xp. took 4 hours, but finally got garmin express loaded. have everything set up - but when it tries to add my vivosmart device it pops up a box that says "tell us about yourself". i can fill it all in, but when i get to language and select english, i can't see anything else. it won't let me make the box any larger and i know there is something down under that english question. if i just hit entire, it says my info is not saved and it won't add the device. i have tried everything i know to do. it looks like this is all i need done to get going and i'm very frustrated. hate to return the device. hate to have to upgrade my computer.

Please see the minimum requirements for Garmin Express:

Windows XP or newer, Microsoft .NET 4 Client Profile (included)
1024 x 768 display, USB port and 1 GB RAM
High speed Internet access (Not for use with dial-up, mobile or satellite connections)
May require up to 13 GB free disk space

If you cannot see the entire Express window then the computer's screen resolution is set to low. You'll have to increase the resolution or use a different computer.

    Hi,

I got the below response from Garmin regarding not being able to connect my viviosmart and it worked. What fixed the issue in my case was the "Garmin Core Update Service is Not Started" instructions.

    ---------------------------------------------------------
Garmin Express uses a background service to communicate with Garmin servers. If Garmin Express displays the error message “Unable to connect with Garmin services”, ensure that the service is running and has the ability to connect to the Internet.

    •Internet Connection

Ensure the Internet connection meets the system requirements for Garmin Express. A high-speed Internet connection is required. Garmin Express is not intended to be used with mobile broadband (such as MiFi, AirCard, or cell phone tethering), satellite, fixed wireless, or dial-up Internet connections

    •Internet Security/Firewall

Security programs can affect the communication between a computer and the Garmin servers. It may be necessary to disable any and all security programs to allow Garmin Express to communicate. Refer to the instructions provided by the application publisher to disable any security programs installed to the computer.

    •Computer Date and Time Settings

Incorrect date and time settings on the computer can cause communication errors between the Garmin Core Update Service and Garmin Servers. To adjust date and time settings, click the appropriate Microsoft or Apple FAQ:

•Garmin Core Update Service is Not Started

The Garmin Core Update Service is required for Garmin Express to function. The computer or a program may have disabled this service from running. If the service is not running, it will need to be started manually:

    Windows:
    1.Press the Windows key + R
    2.Type: services.msc
    3.Click OK
    4.Locate Garmin Core Update Service
5.Right click on Garmin Core Update Service
    6.Click Start
7.Verify the status column changes to Started

Garmin Express should now be able to connect to Garmin services. If the issue persists, contact Garmin Product Support (http://www.garmin.com/us/support/) by phone.
