Just bought a nuvi3597. Trying to register but need Express..... every time I try to install I get a "Fail. Try again" message. This is extremely frustrating... looked at all the forums for help but best solution may be TomTom???
Please help

Yes - I tried that; I uninstalled that update.
  • Then contact Product Support. They should be able to remotely access your PC to determine the issue.

Thanks for that.... ZA support is closed until 5 Jan so I guess better off with something else. Short lived Garmin experience!
  • Well there's no rush to install Express. Your nuvi will work perfectly well without it.

You can also register by creating an account at myGarmin

  • We have just released a new version of Garmin Express to resolve this issue. Any earlier versions of express will no longer install due to changes with the required Microsoft components. You can download the latest version here:

I'm interested to know if this new version has helped others? For myself, it's business as usual. To update maps, I needed Garmin Express. When I tried to install Garmin Express I got the "Failed. Try again?" outcome. Now, with the new version of Garmin Express, I get "Failed. Try again".
From where I'm sitting, nothing's changed. Previously I've tried the various solutions and wasted a lot of time. Reality is, life's too short to spend sitting in front of a computer fiddling about trying to sort a problem that's been created by the company we bought the equipment from. Quick stocktake reveals our household has five Garmin GPS devices, dating well back into the nineties. Good devices, my old 38 still holds it's own when I fire it up. We're meant to have life long updates but nothing's been updated in a while, simply because of Garmin Express.
I don't blame Garmin too much. I'm still running XP SP3 as I don't want to afford to replace all the specialised software I've got, simply because Microsoft want to sell a new OS. Mind you, I've tried to update GE on my laptop which is Windows 7. Still get "Failed. Try again"!
Bottom line is, as an end user, I don't think it's my problem if something doesn't work. Garmin obviously feel differently so I'll just carry on using the old maps until they sort it out. They used to update quite happily, now they don't. If they don't sort it out, I imagine Garmin will do a Nokia and we'll all be using some other GPS as a benchmark.
  • Not sure why you feel it's a Garmin issues. For the vast majority of the millions that use Express it simply works. There are an odd few who have problems. If it's not working on both your XP3 and Win7 PCs then perhaps there is an issue with your ISP/PC/Router etc.

I guess your laptop is running over wifi? Have you tried cabling direct to see if it's a wifi issue?

Also the issue that new release solved was something completely different to earlier/later problems when folks get a Failed, try again message. Now you should try the tips here https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7B68b703a0-2275-11e4-eaba-000000000000%7D

Note if still no joy try following the last point, call Product Support. They can look at your system remotely to resolve the problem you're having.
  • I made the mistake on one of my machines of following the steps until about the last one...uninstall the existing installation.  Now on that PC it still won't install.

On another PC, I get the same install failed message.  I wont bother trying to uninstall.

Over the past year, it's felt like updating Garmin Express is a little like playing Russian Roulette.

Happily only one of those updates was required (not functional without update), and that time it worked.

  • rather than give up remote access to my PC, it would be handy if there was an installation log that could be reviewed to see what the failure was.
