Any way of getting Express on Ubuntu/Linux PC's?

Hi,

Having purchased a Garmin Nuvi with "Free Lifetime Maps" I thought that this would be a snip to update the maps. However, Garmin are forcing the download of Garmin Express, which I can not get to work on my Ubuntu Machine.

Has anyone had any success with this or got a work around? I have tried with Wine, and searched the net with no luck to date.

What the kicker is, is that nowhere on the box does it say Garmin Express is required or that it will only work on Microsoft or Apple corporation software.

I tried wine as well with no luck so far (1.7.34). The Garmin Express installer starts, but it fails when it tries to install the Microsoft Net Framework.
As I won't have a Windows PC with me in the upcoming trainings camp, I'm curious how much data the Forerunner 910XT can store... ;-)

If anybody else has any luck with Garmin Express on Linux, please let us know.
A virtual machine isn't really an option to me, I'd like to use my netbook where space is somewhat limited.

  • Hello,

    Same problem with Ubuntu 19.10:

  • It's kind of late but I've written a blog post on this. It's in Russian but you can use Google Translate
