Unable to sync replacement 310xt.

I got a replacement 310 from Garmin after the rubber casing crumbled away on the last one. Now I can't get the new one to sync with Garmin Connect. I removed the old one from Garmin Express and from Garmin Connect. I then added the new one to Garmin Express and then a while later it did show up in Garmin Connect.

However, when I try to download a workout, it shows as waiting to transfer in Garmin Express, but after trying the downloading process for a minute or so, it shows the error message "Sorry, we couldn't sync your device. Please try again." Up above it says "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect." It continues to show "1 item to sync."

310 software is up to date with 4.5 software.

I have no problem transferring workouts to my 910xt, but prefer the 310xt because of its better GPS accuracy.

Any ideas?

I am sorry that you are having trouble syncing your Forerunner. First, please make sure that you are using the latest version of Garmin Express (v3.2.26). To check for updates, follow the instructions in this FAQ: How do I update Garmin Express?

You can also download the latest version here: http://download.garmin.com/omt/express/B/GarminExpressInstaller.exe

If this doesn't solve the problem, try removing the device from Express, restarting the computer and then pairing it again. To remove the device from Express: How do I delete a fitness device from Garmin Express?

If you are still having trouble, try resetting the 310XT: How do I master reset my Forerunner 310XT?

  • I removed both my 910xt and 310xt from GarminExpress, deinstalled GarminExpress, Removed both the 910xt and 310xt from GarminConnect, removed anything on my computer that said Garmin anything, reinstalled the latest GarrminExpress, re-added my 910xt and 310xt into GarminExpress. I can download workouts into my 910xt, but not my 310xt.

Of course the old problem is back with the 910xt that it keeps going into some kind of uploading loop but that is not new. You have had that bug for years.

Your canned responses are not useful.

To correct the issue with the 310XT you will need to Master Reset the device as mentioned in Jason's post.

  • I did the master reset and it wanted to install G2 2.10. But says "Sorry, we couldn't sync your device. Please try again." However if I look at About Forerunner on the device, it says Software Version 4.50, GPS 2.10. Also, I downloaded a workout from my system to the 310xt. It also seems to think there is a problem uploading Weight and is giving me that same error message. However, I haven't been outside yet to get satellite lock so it is still showing the old date of 12/30/1989 at 7:00 PM. I don't know if that is related or not.

The 12/30/1989 file is a used for those that have the Tanita Heath Scale. The 310XT will always generate it but it usually doesn't cause sync problems. When you do a Master Reset on the 310XT its important that you have completely removed it from Garmin Express and Connect before the Master Reset. That way all the old data retrieved from the watch is deleted from the computer when you remove it and the Master Reset removes any bad data from the watch. When you pair with Express again it is a fresh pair and there shouldn't be any bad data to interrupt Syncing with Connect. Since you have an older 310XT and previously used the ANT Agent, you might have some left over data we should get rid of. Use the instructions below to delete the data before you pair the watch with Express again.

    1. Delete the contents of the C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\Devices\
    2. Press the Windows Key + R key together
    3. Type this exactly, %Appdata%
    4. Click OK
    5. Open the Garmin folder
    6. Open the Devices folder
    7. Delete the numbered folder (unit id of the fitness device)
