Edge 1000 - one item will not upload

Back at the start of November, my Edge 1000 froze at the end of a ride right as I pressed 'save ride'. I had to reset it. The ride was still present but would not sync using Express although I was able to manually export it from the 1000 for successful uploading into Strava.

Since then, whenever I sync my device, I always get an error message relating to that one ride, "there was a problem communicating with the Garmin servers. Please try again later."

However, all my rides since that particular one have uploaded without issue.

All I want to do is remove all trace of the ride from the Edge so it'll stop throwing error messages at me whenever I plug it in to my PC. Is there a way to do this? I thought I'd managed to delete all references to it from the device but clearly there is something still on it that's trying to sync.

Thanks.

The ride you are describing should be in your History/Rides of you device. If you have deleted this the ride it should be gone. Unlike other fitness devices since the Edge 1000 is a Mass Storage mode device the data is not backed up on the computer since it's readily available on the device and you can explore the drive folders to locate a file for manual uploading at any time.

I know you indicated you deleted the ride, have you gone into your "Activities folder on your device and cleared out anything that might be in there? What you can also do is open the Garmin drive and do a general search of ".fit". This will display all the .fit files and you can see if there's any file that may appear on your device that could be causing the issue.

  • I've been through the entire contents of the Edge and there's nothing on there relating to that ride. Could it be cached somewhere in the Garmin Express folder on my PC? If so, do you know whereabouts?

The Edge 1000 doesn't store any activity files on the computer once they are successfully uploaded to Connect but if you have a file that contained corrupt data and didn't make it to Connect, then it would be in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Core Update Service\Sync\UNIT ID of your Edge\Upload folder. There are 2 or 3 FIT_TYPE folders in Upload. Delete any files inside the FIT_TYPE folders. Deleting the Edge from Express then adding it back should have resolved this error for you since that deletes the UNIT ID folder from the Sync folder. If the error keeps coming back after deleting the Edge and re-adding it then the file is coming from the Edge. I do not see in your posts that you actually deleted the Ride from he History menu on the Edge? You mentioned resetting the Edge but that does not delete the History.

  • The ride wasn't in history on the device because I'd already removed it.

That said, the offending file was located in one of the FIT_TYPE folders on my PC. Deleted. It now works. Thank you for the guidance.

Now if only I could solve the BT connectivity issues between my Xperia Z3 using Live Track on the Edge through Connect Mobile.
