Device Found but Add Device button disabled

Has anyone ever had this problem. I installed the latest version of the software on a win 7 pro computer with firewall off. I attach my forerunner 15 with the USB and it is found right away. The only problem is the Add Device button is disabled. I can only click the cancel button. Any ideas...

  • Check the properties of the Forerunner drive, is it possible there is 0 space available?
Open the drive and look for a GarminDevice.xml file, delete it and then disconnect the watch from the computer. Let it power up, it will recreate the file.
    Try Garmin Express again.

I checked the drive and it was only half full. I deleted the xml file anyway and restarted the phone. Then hooked it back up to the computer (USB) and try to open the software and had the same problem. Add Device button is still disabled. The XML didn't get regenerated either. Did I mess it up? Anything else I can try?

If the Forerunner 15 did not regenerate the GarminDevice.xml file you need to master reset the device.
    Master Reset Forerunner 10/15

If the device fails to regenerate the Garmin Device.xml file after the reset then it will have to be exchanged. Contact Garmin Support by phone.

Have you used this computer with Express and the Forerunner before? Express is acting like there are some orphaned files from a failed attempt to add the device in the past. Try uninstalling Express then reinstalling it. That should remove any orphan files for the Forerunner 15. If you have a second computer to try, we can narrow down the source of the problem. It is difficult to determine via the forums whether this is an issue with the device or Express. Unless it did not regenerate the GarminDevice.xml file, then you know the device is the problem.

This is the 2nd computer and have tried multiple uninstall/reinstalls on it. The first computer I used was an older one and wouldn't synch very well. Typically had to reboot several times before the watch would synch. The first computer was older so I thought I'd try a newer windows machine and see if it worked. My last attempt to synch on the old computer stopped part way through. I let it try to complete over night but was still at 50% after several hours. I will look into the master reset option and try again. I'm out of town for the weekend but will post results later. Thanks.
