How do I unlock my new City Navigator NA NT Maps in MapSource?

Hi there I have a Street Pilot 2720 and I just purchased the 2014 CN NANT DVD maps so I can load some of them on my older GPS (I did a search and folks are able to do this).

I was able to unlock my new City Navigator North America NT DVD Maps at this web site:

But when I opened the MapSource program it said my new map set was still locked. So I clicked on the "Unlock Online" button it took me back to the same Garmin web site above, where I have already unlocked my new maps.

How do I unlock the map detail of my new maps in MapSource so I can put some of the maps on my Garmin Street Pilot 2720?

When you unlocked the maps online the Garmin Communicator browser plug-in should've written a .gma file to your computer (and 2720). It sounds like that didn't happen.

Are the maps unlocked on your StreetPilot? I don't think it checks for a .gma file but it might be present anyway (where the maps were written to). If you find it copy it to

WinXP

C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Garmin\Maps

Vista/Win8/Win8

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\Maps

If you can't find it you'll have to email Garmin.

Ok, ignore what I said above. Newer units, and MapSource/BaseCamp, use a .gma file but I'm not sure that applies in your case.

Your unlock code is shown in the myMaps tab in your myGarmin account. You'll need to copy'n'paster that code (25 alphanumeric characters) into MapSource.

Press Ctrl-U. go to the "Unlock Regions" tab, press the "Add..." button and paste the code in there.

Note: MapSource only needs the .gma file for the maps to work on the PC. However your 2720 will need the unlock code and it probably (due to it's age) won't recognize .unl/.gma files which is what newer units use.

This forum is for Garmin Express issues, and the 2720 is not compatible with Garmin Express. Having said that, I found your myGarmin account and it shows you have two 2720s, one has been unlocked to 2015.30 version and the other has a download waiting for that version. If you are still having problems give Garmin Support a call and our agents will be happy to help you get them both updated.
